Hey April the 20th is Record Store Day! Feeling nostalgi for vinyl? Pretending to feel nostalgic for vinyl because you’re too young to actually feel nostaligic for it but understand that it’s the cool thing to feel nostalgic for? Me too.

Vinyl is pretty cool, but independent music stores are even cool. Head down to Landspeed Records on the 20th and buy some music from some people.

Despite the rise of music downloading, vinyl records are more popular than ever and the fair will include over 2000 used LPs including rock, pop, indie, soul, jazz, blues, hip hop, metal, punk and ska titles.

International Record Store Day is a celebration of independently owned music stores with physical locations where customers can browse the racks and talk to expert staff about new music and artists. Metallica kicked off the first Record Store Day in 2008 by playing at Rasputin Music in San Francisco.

Landspeed Records is located at 30 Garema Place, CIVIC.

Went into Landspeed yesterday & they had Exile on Main Street playing. Prompted me to buy a copy of ‘Get Yer Ya-Yas Out’. Live excellence from 1970. Not what I’d planned to get at all, but ace. Good on Landspeed.

I understand those words, but in that order they make no sense: “country music” you say?

No mention of country music ? wots going on.

Wax cylinder day would be tops.

As would tops day…ah, the old, crappy toys…

I’m old enough to have purchased vinyl when the only alternative was the Compact Cassette. Yet I’m young enough to have realised a decade ago that there’s a plethora of internet streaming radio etc to entertain me.

Also, I’m conflicted: Landspeed have sold me some great new music that no-one else put in front of me, but a day of celebration for them and their ilk seems trite .. and Metallica are dead-set wankers. If only they had an online store, I could compromise and buy something from it.

Damn good point! I do heart Landspeed tho. But also concerned they’d go the way of Impact records.
