ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to a hit and run in Red Hill on Thursday night (10 April) where a cyclist was struck by a car.

The incident occurred around 7.45pm. A cyclist was travelling east on Hindmarsh Drive when a light gold coloured Mercedes Benz sedan, travelling north on Jerrabomberra Avenue, turned left into the slip lane at the intersection and collided with him.

The cyclist was thrown from his bike onto the bonnet of the Mercedes Benz and the vehicle proceeded to accelerate some 200metres with the man still on the bonnet.

The cyclist managed to roll himself off the vehicle and sustained minor abrasions to his arm. The driver of the Mercedes Benz fled the scene without stopping.

Police would like to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the collision who have not yet spoken to police or anyone who may be able to identify the driver of the light gold colored Mercedes Benz sedan to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

I’ve frequently seen a light gold coloured Mercedes around Tuggeranong. It used to park illegally near Tuggeranong Town Square just about every day, but that was a coupe not a sedan. I wonder if the description is wrong.

Yeah, parking illegally is just a gateway to running people down. Are you serious?

Whoa, what sort of person keeps driving with a crash victim on their bonnet!? Seriously people, if you have an accident, even if you were negligent, STOP! Because you can bet that when the police catch up to you, whatever penalty you get is going to be far worse than anything they give you for an accident. Stopping and rendering help can save a life. What sort of low life makes it worse for their victim by accellerating? I hope they get locked up for a LONG LONG time. But this being the ACT they will probably get community service.
Also, how many gold coloured Mercedes Benzes are there in the ACT? I bet I could count them on one or two hands, with maybe a third hand needed for those in Queanbeyan.
I hope the cyclist recovers soon and is not too injured.

Actually the cyclist would have been travelling west not east as reported.
