ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an aggravated robbery of a pizza delivery driver in Reid early this morning (Thursday, February 9).

About 12.15am, a Dominos pizza delivery driver was making a delivery to an address in Allambee St, Reid, when he was hailed down by three teens.

The driver stopped his vehicle, got out and was immediately approached by a boy and girl, who were both carrying knives. The boy held a knife to the victim’s back while the girl held a knife to his neck. The other boy approached the vehicle and took the pizzas and a bottle of soft drink. He then ran south along Allambee Street.

The first boy demanded the victim’s money before taking a sum of cash from the victim’s hands. The boy and girl fled in the same direction as the other boy.

The two boys are described as being aged around 15 or 16.

The girl is described as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in appearance and aged in her mid teens. She is approximately 152cm (5’) tall, with brown coloured eyes and brown hair. She was wearing a white hooded jumper.

Police would ask anyone that may have witnessed the incident or may have located a Dominos Pizza Hot Cell box in the vicinity of Reid, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information may be provided anonymously.

Apologies, *his back.

Well, both back and neck apparently.

Why in the world did he stop, let alone get out of his car though? I mean, it is terrible that one should have to worry about pulling over, but it is sadly the case these days.

Often the customer will be waiting outside their house and will flag you down when you drive past.

I did plenty of deliveries to housing flats and impoverished areas and I very rarely felt unsafe. If I refused to get out of the car every time an aboriginal ordered a pizza I would very quickly be out of a job.

The stocks will be coming back as soon as the roller skating rink finishes for the year.

What – and miss out on all the fun of putting them in the stocks in Garema Place?

There’s stocks in Garema Place? I really need to get into the city more often.

Do they have baskets of rotton fruit and veg at ten paces too?

It won’t be cheap if they get done for it.

We the taxpayer will be paying for the up-keep of these scum for the rest of their lives.

Such burdens on society should be put to the sword.

Do you know how much of the customer base don’t have debit or credit cards? Sure Dominos loses around $40 in cash and a few pizzas but the loss of revenue if they forced credit/debit cards would far outweigh a robbery every now and then.

Having a staff member seriously injured, or killed in a robbery is likely to cost them a lot more than $40 .. I’m also interested to know what motivated the driver to pull over for some kids in the middle of the night. Irrespective, I hope he is ok and the crims are caught with their pizza and soda soon.

Actually when we feel so degraded as to order what passes for pizza from Dominos we do it online. Way better way to go. I do realise though this isnt available to everyone.

As my youngest son currently has to do similar work I am very aware of concerns over “soft” targets such as delivery drivers. Not sure what the answer is though.

Yep, heaps at first, but if they all make it a rule people will get debit cards pretty quickly. Otherwise they’d starve with no Pizza.

Yeah, never mind the guy who had a knife held to his throat.

This seems to happen too often these days. Here’s a suggestion, insist that all pizzas be pre-paid via debit or credit card when ordering. No more of this carrying cash around.
