Rejoice! Rejoice oh Canberra in your doubly excellent newspaper of the year!

Well they do tell lies, just to sell the papers, sensationalising a story and innuendos, can’t believe what is written.

Anyone who travels around the country, and especially around the world, will acknowledge that it’s a great paper for the size of city it serves. The problem is that all papers are less important, and less profitable, than they once were, which means quality will slowly decline.

It isn’t digital technology that is causing the downfall of the printed paper. I also stopped subscribing to a certain online news service because of their insistence that nothing ever happens unless it is announced in a press release and then only including a snide comment as their token contribution.

Damien – Articles across the Age, SMH and CBR Times are often identical – that’s because all three papers are in the same stable.

Congrats Canberra Times, and I’m sure journalists are adopting a more collegiate approach than writers & editors on this forum, given that jobs are at stake here.

This just goes to show that the journalistic cognoscenti lives in a parallel universe, sipping their lattes, playing with their blackberries and completely out of touch with the readers they’re supposed to be serving. While the Fairfax papers are getting more and more left wing and losing circulation at a rate of knots, the industry is conferring awards on them. Says a lot, doesn’t it? The Canberra Times is absolute crap and its credibility is at an all-time low. That’s what the public thinks despite what a bunch of moronic wankers in the industry might do. You can fool some of the people some of the time …

Yes, you are right. I looked at the last renewal notice for $102.48 and multiplied it by 12 instead of 4. Still, even at $409 it isn’t good value.

This brings up my other gripe with them was the total lack of transparency in their arbitrary subscription prices. You can get discounts if you have the right card, like the Brindabella Park Employees card, and knew the secret password but they won’t tell you about them.

I prefer the Cairns Post myself, purely for the entertainment quality of their stories.
