The first Capital Food and Wine Festival is set to take over Commonwealth Park this weekend.
After a two-year launch delay, this Canberra foodie festival will fill Stage 88 with plenty of food, wine, live music and fun.
Capital Food and Wine Festival event manager Matt said the location of the festival had to be changed because of the overwhelming support from stallholders.
“We actually outgrew Patrick White Lawns probably four or five months ago and had to move to Stage 88 because we’ve got too many vendors, which is a great thing,” he said.
“It was … painful to have to move from Patrick lawns but also a wonderful thing because, like ourselves, obviously the entertainment industry suffered for so long and so did these vendors. Being able to give them an opportunity to get back into market has been great.”
Matt said there would be 60 food and wine vendors on site across a 270-metre strip.
“The vendor responses have been amazing to be honest,” he said. “We’ve got breweries, distilleries, wineries. We’ve got everyone from handmade markets, caterers, ciders, a bit of everything, so it’s really good.”
As well as local vendors, Matt said sellers would come from Queensland and Victoria.

“We’ve got everything from Turkish gozleme to the Asian Noodle House coming,” he said. “We’ve also got Bentspoke coming and Wilma and The Pearl bringing the new container kitchen that they’ve built.”
With less than 600 tickets left to sell, Matt expects a turnout of between 4000 and 5000 people.
“I just want to make sure that the queues aren’t too large and that everyone has a good time,” he said.
There will also be live music playing throughout the day including solo artists, DJs and the ARIA award-winning duo Sneaky Sound System.

Capital Brewing Co events manager Dan Watters said he was excited for Capital Brewing Co to be one of the featured vendors at the festival.
‘The festival looks like an incredible gathering of some of Canberra’s finest producers and it’s an honour to be a part of that,” he said.
“We will be bringing a wide range of beers like some of our core range beers and some of our specialty and seasonal releases.”
Matt said he looked forward to finally launching the Capital Food and Wine Festival this weekend.
“You don’t appreciate live entertainment and live events until you open the gates and look at thousands of people making memories and you think ‘this wouldn’t be here if we didn’t back ourselves and we didn’t do this’,” he said.
“Don’t get me wrong, the event industry definitely has its challenges, but I love these events, I live for them to be honest. When you’re watching people on stage and see everyone have a good time, it’s what drives you to do the next one.”
