Hi Folks,

On Wednesday it is the anniversary of Sorry Day, to remember the systematic removal of Indigenous children from their families and communities throughout much of the 20th Century. May 26 is the yearly commemoration of the Stolen Generations.

To note the advances made while recognising that the journey toward healing is only half-way there, there will be a Bridge Walk over the Commonwealth Bridge at midday. See the details below.

There will also be a memorial service with a candlelight walk to Reconciliation Place, gathering at 5.30 onwards at the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture, at 15 Blackall Street BARTON ACT 2600 (cnr King’s Avenue), for a 6.00pm start.

All are welcome: this is reconciliation in action. Matilda House will lead the walk.

Also see the National Sorry Day website: www.nsdc.org.au

CraigT…What politically motivated shit are you pushing? There is nothing more pathetic than a middle age white man peddling ideas from the 1950. Exactly what is it you are seeing with your fat ass on the couch watching the big screen TV. You might like to watch a little less commercial TV.

I’m not surprised. This is the CraigT who stated he’d vote for the Australia First party … after they’d been exposed as a bunch of reactionary redneck racists.

As a society we’re more than happy to drone on about our moral ‘highs’, like Gallipoli and ANZAC (which, incidentally, happened far longer ago than the recent history of the stolen generation), yet distance ourselves like rockets from the stolen generation…..as its not ‘our’ fault.

If that one isn’t our fault then we shouldn’t take the credit as a nation for anything done before we were born, like Gallipoli. You can’t have it both ways

Undoubtedly some were ‘better off’, but that doesn’t justify it for the truckload who weren’t

+1 Vg. I’m glad we agree on this issue.

I would suggest some of the feel good public servants here might like to have a read of Keith Windschuttle’s The Fabrication of Aboriginal History – Vol III: The Stolen Generations for a more accurate and balanced view of the subject matter.

Have you *read* this book? Perhaps had a chance to evaluate the criticism of it’s methodology and the numerous critiques of it’s ideologically driven agenda.

Somehow, I seriously doubt it.

It’s a pity that, while actual historians and academics across all disciplines don’t take Windschuttle seriously, there’s a lot of inbred tools who how claim to have an intellectual hero solely because his thesis supports their racist worldview. Without this undercurrent of anti-intellectual, bigoted self-righteousness, the man wouldn’t get any airtime.

“systematic removal of Indigenous children from their families”
Still pushing this politically-motivated myth, are they?
Pathetic.
As we are seeing right now, a great many aboriginal children would benefit immensely from being removed from their dropkick parents but the government isn’t going to do it.

50 years from now, they’ll be suing the government over the “Abandoned Generation” – children who were *not* removed from circumstances no white child would be left in.

I would suggest some of the feel good public servants here might like to have a read of Keith Windschuttle’s The Fabrication of Aboriginal History – Vol III: The Stolen Generations for a more accurate and balanced view of the subject matter.

And all those Interventions in the First Nations camps are all White Mans fault.

Captain RAAF – My uncle and cousins never felt they were better off. They were better off when we got them back.

Well I am sorry for what was done to them, but I didn’t do it, blame the government, and while where at it what about when German people who lived in Australia were interned in WW1 and German’s lost their jobs in WW2, my great grandfather was a mounted policeman’s who died while chasing bush rangers here in Australia, and the government still interned my grandfather because he was born German who came out to Australia when he was a baby, there are many injustice’s done over the years.

Look, Kevin said “Sorry” – can’t you ungrateful bastards just go away????

Build a bridge and get over it.

(Gee, you try and help people, and all you get is grief……..)

As a society we’re more than happy to drone on about our moral ‘highs’, like Gallipoli and ANZAC (which, incidentally, happened far longer ago than the recent history of the stolen generation), yet distance ourselves like rockets from the stolen generation…..as its not ‘our’ fault.

Isn’t the point of saying sorry, like Ruddy did, to enable us to put the nasties behind us? Perhaps it would be more helpful to have a remembrance type day, or something similar.

Look, it’s Private Pussy come to beat those pesky abos round the head with…let me see, yes, true to form he’s forgone citing any evidence and gone straight for the opinionated kill! And he’s bought his sidekick, JessP, who can’t spell ‘RAAF’, ‘hear’ (twice) or use punctuation. This is shaping up to be a quality debate. Surely it’s only a matter of time before somebody rolls out the Windschuttle 2000, the ‘black armband’ defense and something about the Tent Embassy. Your messiah would be proud.

Hmm…I’ve gone through my previous posts Woody, and I can’t see any examples of me personally insulting you? I find it most disappointing and sad that you would stoop to this when you don’t even know me. Is sticking to the subject so difficult? Proof, evidence you cry? Did you bring any?

How about…RABBIT PROOF FENCE!

Touted by the indiginous stolen apologists as the defining portrayal of the nasty white mans abuse and ‘theft’ of that generation….but of course, once the hype died down we soon found out it WAS ALL MADE UP!!!!

btw, 3 cats less in my area since last Thursday. =-)

Oh, but it’s not OUR fault you see. 50 years ago was a long time, it’s not like anyone alive now was around then!*

Sweet, I’m under 50 so i get to be guilt free.

At least they’re not closing the bridge, you know how narky Canberra drivers can get.

Exactly! Because we all know that recognizing something about our history that was wrong and expressing remorse on behalf of one’s country is just too much brain-work, just like common courtesy while driving and thinking before voting.

Gee, life can be hard sometimes, just like spelling acronyms. I thought my dog was patriotic because it always sung highly of the Air Force, but now I realize that’s not the acronym at all. I will have to kill that dirty, commie little fleabag!

I reckon your children would be much better if they were taken from you.

I am sure thousands will attend but then again most of the black armband mob have probably moved on to another cause.
