Canberra’s Best Removalists

Canberra removalists

There’s no denying that moving house is a huge job. Even if you’re only moving from a one-bedroom apartment to another, there’s so much to think about – from packing and cleaning to unpacking and updating address details.

A skilled, reliable removalist can help take the stress out of your next move. But what qualities should you look for in a removalist company, and where can you find the best in Canberra?

Let’s find out.

What makes a great removalist company?

There’s more to being a great removalist company than efficiently moving boxes and furniture between locations. We recommend keeping an eye out for the following traits when choosing a removalist for your next move:

  • Transparent pricing. Your removalist should be upfront with you about how much things will cost. There should be no unexpected fees or charges. If there are additional costs – such as for the move taking longer than expected, or picking up items from multiple locations – these should be made clear at the start.
  • Respectful of your property. The best removalists treat customers’ property like their own – this means keeping mess and disruption to a minimum while being exceptionally careful with your belongings.
  • Reliability. Your chosen removalist company should show up on time and ready to work. They should use their time efficiently to help you get settled in to your new place sooner.
  • Customer service. Look for friendly, warm and professional customer service – both when you book your move and from the movers that turn up on the day.
  • Additional services. If you’d like your removalist company to take care of jobs like packing/unpacking boxes, check that this is something they can offer.

It was helpful to get confirming phone calls and accurate quotes from day one. Thanks to the three great blokes who made a stressful day much less stressful!”

Carmen Greens Furniture Removals & Storage

Family owned and operated with offices in Canberra, Goulburn and the South Coast, Carmen Greens are great if you need help with both removals and storage. They’re great at accommodating special requests, doing everything from carton pick-up and delivery, pet, plant and vehicle relocation, disassembling and reassembling furniture, supplying packing materials, packing breakable items like fine china or electrical goods, or even post-move cleaning. They even provide plastic covers for fabric items and portable wardrobes.

When you contact them they’ll arrange for one of the owners (either John or Paul) to come out and give you a personalised quote so you’ll know exactly what you’ll be up for. KT67 said “Carmen Green, they did a fantastic job of our last move and charged by the hour with no hidden charges. They were the first removalists who worked out the huge recliner couch came apart which meant unlike previous removals the door frames didn’t cop a beating.”

Their vehicles are fitted with dust-proof packing blankets, lifting straps and trolleys so they can move heavy items quickly and they include fire, collision and overturn insurance for free. They’re also great if you’re moving interstate because they don’t subcontract to third parties.

Removalists Canberra Removals

Removalists Canberra Removals

Removalists Canberra specialise in local moves across all suburbs in Canberra, as well as surrounding areas including Queanbeyan, Yass, Murrumbateman, Bungendore, Burra and Royala. Their prices are affordable and they offer packing and furniture disassembly, as well as rubbish removal.

While they can help with standard residential moves from houses, apartments and townhouses, they’re one of the few removalists in the region that cater specifically for office and commercial moves. Their removalists have been security cleared, making them a good option for government agencies and other businesses that handle important or sensitive information.

They’ve also received some good online reviews, with one Google reviewer (Aurea Antillon) saying “We had such an amazing experience with this removal company twice already. We moved over the weekend and i was sooo amazed of how they handled our stuffs….. Hence, they packed and moved our things professionally! Also add to that, they are very friendly, on time, always go the second mile and would definitely recommend. Surely deserve 5 STARS”.

They carry moving blankets and their trucks are fitted with padding and straps, so your things shouldn’t get damaged during transit. They also have a decent fleet of trucks and trailers in different sizes, so you won’t waste money paying for a larger truck than you need.

You should get really good service if you call them and speak to Yesu, with one Rioter (AmyB) commenting on how valuable his advice was helping them get ready for the move, and he even called them the night before to double-check they were still good to go for the following day.

Beethoven moved a piano for me a few years ago and the driver bumped along my street at high speed – pianos should be moved carefully and slowly. Beethoven can’t be trusted.

I’m quite pastoral to him myself.

I’ll give feedback on Whiteknight shortly, i’ve booked them for a move within the next 3 weeks.

Have you had your move yet MightyJoe? We’ll be in need of a removalist also soon and have been solicited by Whiteknight and Chess.

I had a very good experience with Chess Removals. All my furniture was individually wrapped in packing blankets and carefully loaded and unloaded. Not one single scratch anywhere. They also arrived on time!

Actually that is the precise company we used when we moved here from Japan. they were amazing and incredibly careful with our stuff (moreso than we are). i know not to expect anything on that level here but would prefer a company that won’t go out of its way to break stuff. last time we moved within canberra we got a broken tv and a broken washing machine out of it… :-/

anyway, thanks for the recommendations all – i will get estimates from those mentioned. much appreciated!

Are you mocking me? I mean no one on this blog ever says thanks to me.

I was very happy with Carmen Green too; however my last move was 10 years ago. I also wanted to store quite a bit of stuff while I had work done on my new place: that was no trouble and, again, not too expensive.

I’ve used them twice in recent years and found them good. But it would very much depend on who you get on the day. Also, I’m probably not that particular about my stuff so my main concern is speed and cost.

Allied Pickfords did a great job last time I used them. Very quick, good price and importantly, zero damage.

Tell me more? I’m about to move house soon and was hoping to use them to move the heavier items while I did the rest.

You are looking for a careful removalist in Canberra? Heh, good luck! Hard to find. What annoys me is most, it is mostly luck of the draw, depending on who is on the job at the time.

Anyway, if I had to tout one, I would go with one in particular, Beethoven Piano Movers. Despite the name, they do more than just pianos – they are bona fide heavy lifters and they are actually careful with your stuff. Yes, regardless of who is on the job at the time, they are well trained and actually take careful pride in their work.

btw, let us know how you get on.

(Whatever you decide, just steer clear of the ones that hack up a lung while you are on the phone with them, no matter how cheap they are.) Bad experiences_R_Us.

=)

Can’t recall who we used about 10 years ago in Tuggers, but I do recall the guy who came to give the quote commented that we had nice furniture and that they would do certain things to protect it, for instance wrapping the legs of a piece of furniture to stop any scratches. When it came to moving the things none of this eventuated, and whilst we got through unscathed, I remember it as a lesson to ensure they do what they say for the money they will charge.

I suggest White Knight Transport. They’ve moved me 4 times now. They achieved a great job every time. Punctual, careful, efficient and I think relatively cheap.

Mitchell Family Removals may do local. I have used them to move household goods twice to SE Qld with good results both times and no breakages. Personal service. I’d use them again.

OT but in keeping with the political climate at the moment. I remember on election night 1996 – when Keating and Labor were defeated – Tower Removalists parked their truck outside The Lodge. It was a bit more imaginative than what happened in Brisbane last year when a fat lady sang The Carnival Is Over outside State Parliament the night Labor was wiped off the electoral map.
