Here at RiotACT it’s been a long few years of crying in the wilderness that the Government’s willingness to fund irrelevant bollocks was at odds with a Territory barely able to pay its way at the best of times.

Now the ABC is reporting on concerns in the Financial Review about our budget position.

[Former New South Wales auditor-general] Tony Harris compares the ACT Budget unfavourably to that of New South Wales.

Mr Harris says if the NSW Government had similar budget problems to the ACT on a per capita basis, it would be facing an operating deficit of more than $7 billion.

why don’t we get all the welfare fuckers e(xcepting legitimate people with disabilities, pensioners amd war vets of course) who are useless to us other than making us feel good about themselves… ship them off too buttfuck queanbeyan….. that cuts welfare… and more money to spend on cool stuff…

Sadly, Absent Diane, it seems we can’t have both with the money we have.

Sure we need cool stuff, but I think the bigger priority is digging ourselves out of the seriously big hole we’re in takes precedent. No point in buying a big screen TV when you’re already spending all your cash on other things.

Agreed there has to be more balance – less cost cutting on important infrastructure.. and certainly less pay increases. But I personally want to see cool stuff

You may be right AD, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to pay more to the government so an ineffective legislative assembly gets ANOTHER pay rise.

I’ve got to go with Thumper – start with the basics before spending money they don’t have on shit we don’t need! Especially whilst there are funding issues surrounding housing and the AFP. Seems pretty straight-forward to me.

yeah but you have to spend money to make money…. and I think canberra is in need of revamping so as to attract more people and to keep more people…..

Meanwhile some believe it is imperative that we build a busaway through the bush that does not encourage critical mass along a transport corridor and tend to another ‘garden’ in the form of an aboretum. Where is government finding something in the order of $150million to fund these wacky tobacky projects?
