A good way to upset the Japanese is to suggest there is any similarity between themselves and Koreans. The crimes committed in the name of Japanese exceptionalism are, however, well beyond the scope of this article.
Cocorea is, in any event, far more a Korean joint than anything else despite its claims to “Korean & Japanese” status. One of three (by my count) now adorning the Garema Place / City Walk precinct.
The interior owes more to KFC than restaurant dining but it all serves a function: getting you affordable tasty food quickly. The customers are mostly young asians with the odd round-eye venturing in to bugger up the ordering system and flummox the borderline English skills of the staff behind the ordering counter.
If you’re one of those people still offended by hearing people speaking in languages other than your own this probably isn’t the place for you.
For my lunch I had the pictured plate of BBQ pork and kimchi (fermented cabbage) with sticky rice for a reasonable $10.70. A bottle of green tea and lemon was the now standard $3.
It arrived with the speed essential for lunch and was suitably tasty. It was also spicy, but not enough to blow the top any but the most sensitive of palates.
