Just a quick write up of La Pasa restaurant. Some of the others at the table had been there for lunch and had liked it, but this was the first time for dinner. Service was very fast and friendly, with little time taken to achieve any tasks. In fact the dishes were brought out so quickly that we weren’t sure what we were going to do with the rest of the night as dinner would be over so soon. But the dishes kept on coming, and they were tasty and very generous portion sizes for the banquet. We had no chance of finishing. The dishes that stood out were the duck pancakes as an entree, the beef rendang and the kum sar pork chops.

Yes the name does sound funny for a Singaporean Restaurant, but here is what their website has to say:

Although sounding a tad spanish, la pa sa’s name is derived from the popular festival market ‘lau pa sat’; a heritage building located in the central business district of Singapore.

Thanks for the lanterne room recommendation astrojax! I’ll add it to my “to try” list.

My friend and I went there for some simple fare, I had noodle soup and my friend had a vege noodle dish, and we both woke up next day with headaches and feeling seedy. Exactly the sort of reaction I get to MSG, and my friend agrees, and once I mentioned my reaction she was happier, as she though she might be coming down with something.

So, that’s probably where the great ‘taste’ comes from. If you’re allergic to MSG, best to steer clear methinks.

La Pasa’s rock salt pork is a life changing experience..in a good way.

I love their food

you might try ‘lanterne room’ in campbell, ruth – it is a mix (asian fusion, probably more properly) but i had a great malaysian classic there (see previous story) and they do singapore and vietnam and you may be surprised. you could always ask when you call to book…

la pasa sounds a goer – how come i never knew… musst rectify that soon. what is the a la carte price like?

I went there once for dinner about 18 months or so ago. Perhaps I had the wrong dishes, but the food didn’t taste very Singaporean to me.

Any suggestions for the more authentic dishes from La Pasa? Being Singaporean born, I’m always keen on finding places that do authentic Singaporean dishes.

You’ve just reminded me that I have been meaning to go again- I went when it first opened (2 years ago I guess!) and it was heaven on a chopstick. Sounds like not a lot has chnaged.
