A newish player in the crowded Garema Place scene Tepanya plays to the strengths of its location.

Serving up all meals in cute little cardboard boxes with a pair of disposable chopsticks means you can take your meal anywhere with you and eat it with a minimum of fuss and mess.

The asian staff are all smiles beneath their Australian flag decked baseball hats and the big signage explains clearly how to order.

    1) Choose what you want with your noodles; beef, chicken, etc, etc,
    2) Select what sort of noodles you want; hokkien, egg, rice, etc, etc,
    3) Pick a sauce; oyster, sweet chilli, etc, etc,

If you’re daunted by this they’ve got a board with some suggested combinations

They then make it up fresh, which can take a couple of minutes.

A word of warning, noodles packed wet into those cardboard containers hold their heat. This can be a good thing if you’re going for a walk but, especially with thick hokkien noodles, you need to take some care to avoid burning your mouth.

The stir frying is masterful, delivering crisp vegetables and tender meat. IIRC $9,90 gets you a small serve which makes a decent lunch size.

The sauces, however, taste as if they’re straight out of the bottle, which is a shame when the rest of it is rather good.

It’s cheerful, reasonably snappy, not too expensive, and extremely convenient. Just what Garema Place needed.

Sounds fantastic – will give them a try next time I’m in the area!!

I loved this place when it was Valentino’s. My partner and i always had Dutch Pancakes their for dessert. What ever happened to the previous owners? I haven’t tried the place since these guys set up shop.

A contender for my favourite noodle haunt, that being Noodle Choice in Dickson. I must try these guys out just for kicks.

Cheers for the heads up 🙂
