Restaurant Review – Windows on the Park (in full)

Restaurant: Windows on the Park
Cost: $50 per person plus drinks
Where: Casino Canberra
Date Reviewed: 24-Mar-2005

Going to the Casino is not something I normally do and going to a Casino restaurant even less so, but for Christmas last year my boss gave me a voucher for Windows on the Park and I thought I’d better use it.

The decor lived up to the tackiness that I expect of casinos the world over with dark red carpets and walls with gold and brass fittings on everything. The strange part was they were going for some sort of Eygptian theme with pyramids and torches all around the place, but there was a clock on the wall which I didn’t think casinos did.

When booking for dinner I’d asked for a window table as the place is called Windows on the Park (not knowing that it was right inside the casino) and I thought it would be nice to look out over the park. What a surprise it was when I found the windows where covered over with black plastic and a picture of a Pyramid on it. So essentially there are no windows and no park either.

The food was overpriced but nice and every dish came with a yellow buttery sauce that left you craving for some variety. And paying $30 for an $8 bottle of white wine is always annoying.

Even with the voucher I felt ripped off but that didn’t stop me losing another $10 on the roulette table.
