ACT Policing is investigating an attempted aggravated robbery in Canberra’s south last night (Sunday, August 28) which left a 48-year-old Richardson man injured.

Around 6.45pm, the man was walking home when he was confronted by three men near the Johnson Drive underpass in Richardson.

One of the men asked the victim if he had anything for him. When the victim told the men he had nothing to give them, one of the men punched him in the back of the head, knocking him to the ground.

The victim managed to get off the ground while the offenders continued to assault him. He fought back, preventing any of his property being taken and the three offenders left empty handed.

As a result of the incident, the man attended The Canberra Hospital for treatment of injuries to his stomach, shoulders and ribs.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or may have seen a group of men near the Johnson Drive underpass around 6.45pm last night to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

“One of the men asked the victim if he had anything for him.”

Sure do! *BANG*

Hats off to this courageous individual. You’ve gotta be game to stand up to the scum when the odds are 1 to 3.

I hope he comes out of it OK, and I hope he did enough damage to put the scumbags in substantial pain for a considerable period.

I’d bet any money the idiots didn’t learn a goddamned thing. People who hang out under underpasses waiting for someone to mug rarely just give up because of one shellacking. They’ll just pick their victim better next time and maybe take a weapon with them. The odds that their next victim will also be prepared to stand up to 3 people are not high.

I’m glad the guy is okay.

Some of you may not agree with this, but I’m gladthe guy fought back. It’s time these low life half wits learned a lesson or in that people won’t lay down and be beaten up for their personal property. Yes I know that such actions can lead to escalation of the assault with weapons possiby being used but these people only understand one way – the hard way. I hope the cops get ’em and give a bit more of it too just quietly
