ACT Policing is investigating a collision in Macquarie where a motorcycle rider has collided with a tree.

About 9am this morning police were conducting radar speed detection on Bindubi Street, Macquarie when a rider on a blue motorcycle drove past above the posted speed limit.

Police attempted a traffic stop on the motorcyclist, activating lights and siren for the rider to stop.

The rider accelerated away from police and a short time later has failed to negotiate a bend in the road on Redfern Street, crossing onto the opposite lane and colliding with a tree.

ACT Ambulance Service attended the scene and conveyed the man to The Canberra Hospital. The 32-year-old Dunlop man is reported to be in a stable condition.

Redfern Street will be closed between Elizabeth Street and Lachlan Street for the next few hours as ACT Policing’s Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Wow, there should be a law against that sort of thing… sooner or later someone’s going to get seriously hurt, or killed.

Whoopies. Just realised this was posted a couple of days ago. It just seemed to be so ironic that it was on the site today when I was preparing to complain. My comments are still valid – just a bit belated!

Hmmn. Interesting. I was logging in this morning to express my disappointment about my experience with a motorcyclist this morning and noted this article. The bike looks the same so could be the same guy. The one I am talking about thought it was acceptable to overtake me on a speed suppressor on Own Dixon Drive (yes, the really big red one with double white lines) and then give me the finger when I tooted the horn at him – then he sped off. No wonder the rider in this article is not getting a lot of sympathy. It only takes a few people to do the wrong thing that allows us to group all bike riders together – and then make big sweeping statements about their abilities (which may or may not be true).

He was lucky, very lucky. Did he deserve that luck? No. Lets hope he learns from this.

Yes, we are jealous of lawless scum who endanger the public by trying to flee from police and then with amusing irony wipe themselves out on the first gentle bend.

The world is a crowded place. If somebody has to go, let it be uncoordinated lawless scum.

Sooo much rage towards bikers. No one in the drink driving thread has wished that group of people dead. How many bikers crash into other cars and kill the occupants compared to drink drivers etc there would be a few but not as many.

How many drivers just kill us because they can’t be arsed doing a head check. If any group of people that should die its the no head checking while tailgating driver whose texing down the parkway.

Before you call us lawless scum or temp Australians go and do a 2 day course and learn how to ride.

In fact everyone go and learn to ride a bike and you might get an idea what were on about and your driving might actually improve.

Geeeze no wonder i fear for my life when I take the bike out, the hatred towards those that ride in the few comments here, makes me wonder if the person who almost hit me the other day actually didn’t see me or just wanted me dead.

Hope the rider makes a fast recovery.

Well said.
And that’s it exactly.
No where else in the 1st world are motorcycle riders treated with the contempt they are here. Geez, in many european countries they’re even the preferred method of transport.

I dont know where it comes from, but Ive long suspected jealousy as a major contributing factor.

and had the rider, while fleeing, collided with a car and injured its occupants while crossing the road as he lost control, would those defending him and the saintlihood of all bike riders be singing the same tune?? I think not. Just lucky he lived to learn (hopefully) from this.

Of course he doesn’t deserve to die, but running from the cops is a pretty stupid thing to do.

Yeah, I think he probably gets that.
But honestly, haven’t we all thought about it?
How many of us have been tempted? Come on… seriously?

There’s a big difference between thinking about something and actually doing.

I guess it depends on how likely he thought is was that he would escape. Either way, a nasty but avoidable incident.

Cyclists too…….I have to say, most people a pretty good. As with everything it is a minority that ruins it but they stick out like dogs balls.

Another temporary Australian. More sympathy for the tree than and idiot that probably deserved to die. Though I doubt this will change his lifestyle.

And you sir, are an ignorant, arrogant gutless dinosour.
How dare you make those assumptions, you know nothing about the rider, the circumstances, or clearly anything else.
It’s so easy to make comments like that under anonimity.

Identify yourself and prove me wrong.

This guy may be a young idiot, but suggesting that he deserves to die for what he did seems a bit harsh.

Well done, let’s hope the stack knocked some sense into him.

Hurts less if one just pulls over and faces the music!

Another single-vehicle accident on Redfern St this week???

You my friend are a disgrace to the human nature… you do not know this man so how dare you comment that he should deserve to die.. nearly no one deserves to die.. you are just another key board warrior who is probably some socially awkward 40year old loser living with his mother.

How’s the tree doing?

Must have been pushing it hard to loose some skin on those slight curves!
