ACT Policing is investigating a single vehicle collision last night (Friday, January 21) in Palmerston in which a motorcyclist suffered serious head injuries.

Around 8pm the motorcyclist, a 21-year-old man from Ashtonfield in the NSW Hunter Valley, was riding on Kosziuscko Ave in Palmerston when he lost control of his machine and came off. Investigations are ongoing however, speed may have been a contributing factor.

He was conveyed to hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

ACT Policing’s Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team (CIRT) are seeking any witnesses who may have seen the man riding the blue Yamaha trail bike in the area at the time of the incident. Witnesses are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.

Mysteryman,

I’m not really sure what facts you expect. It’s pretty easy to determine speed is a factor by just looking at a collision.

I would think people would want to know that the street/road is safe and that this is an isolated incident.

I think about 2 years ago there was pressure on the AFP to release more media reports to the public.

These days things are put out there pretty quickly whilst the incident is still in it’s early investigations, meaning they can only possibly report on ‘indications’ and ‘speculation’

It’s better than nothing……..

I suspect the wuckfit not wearing a helmet may have also been a contributing factor.

I was a witness to the accident and I can guarantee he WAS wearing a helmet.

“…speed may have been a contributing factor”.

A dinosaur might also have been a contributing factor. How about reporting facts, rather than speculating.

The way I read it is that initial investigations indicate speed was a contributing factor, however that can’t be confirmed until the investigation is complete. I doubt it’s pure speculation.

Yeah, I know. It just frustrates me that they constantly say things like that before they’ve actually completed an investigation.

Kinda like the opposite when police are involved, those involved are cleared of any blame before anyones even started an investigation. Hooray for double standards.

I also think the placement of the comma after the ‘however’ changes the context of the sentence from reporting to speculating too.

If you’re going to critique the punctuation of others, it’s best to be spot on with your own.

In the case of almost any street in Gungahlin speed is the most likely cause of a crash. The streets are designed to slow people down. Some people don’t pay attention to that. being stupid may be the underlying cause behind the speed.

A media release is posted after the collision team has investigated the scene. They would have a good idea on speculating the cause of the crash.
