Andrew Barr is making sure we know about the 2013 Riesling Challenge:

This afternoon I launched the 14th Canberra International Riesling Challenge, which is the largest single-variety wine show in the Southern Hemisphere and attracts entries from around the world.

At the launch I also presented a special Centenary of Canberra Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Canberra District Wine Region. The recipient, Dr Edgar Riek OAM, has been an influential pioneer of the Canberra district wine industry and it is my pleasure to help recognise his contribution during our Centenary year celebrations.

The 2013 International Riesling Challenge runs until 12 October 2013 at the Albert Hall and the Hyatt Hotel Canberra. It has attracted 483 entries from around the world, which will be judged during the week with the winners announced on Friday 11 October.

There will be a public tasting this Saturday 12 October, 11am to 3pm, at the Albert Hall.

Although I suppose that depends on how many wines are included. If they mean the full 483 entered, then yes, that is good value.

Because I’m incredibly helpful, I copied this from the relevant site:

Taste all the wines judged at the 2013 Canberra International Riesling challenge. Cost for public tasting $30, including souvenir Riedel tasting glass and full results catalogue from the 2013 Challenge. Entry payable at the door. 11am-3pm

Sounds quite good value!

I’m not sure “crisp” is the best attribute to be looking for in a Riesling…

Public tasting of Riesling!!!??? Wild horses wouldn’t keep me away!

I need a crisp, palate cleansing Riesling or twelve after the 20 or so beers I tried at the EPIC beer fest.

Who else is up for it?

Lol nah I love wine! And riesling is a very flexible grape capable of expressing various characteristics depending on the climate in which it’s grown and its ripeness when picked…

But I suppose drinking riesling when 6 months pregnant isn’t a great look. I guess I’ll have to miss this one. 😉

Riesling tasting you say? This site is definitely bad for one’s health, despite BimboGeek’s best efforts.
