Rincon Latino closing today

Rincon Latino, the Latin Corner, is closing its doors today.

This may be part of the coming squeeze on ACT eateries that’s been discussed elsewhere on RiotACT, or it may be coincidence; the notice posted by the proprietress simply says that although she’s had a great time doing this, it’s time to let this enterprise go and move on to other things.

I can’t say with hand on heart that I’ve been a Rincon Latino regular, but I’ve eaten there enough times that I’ll miss the filling, no-frills food and the chance to eat a kind of cuisine I haven’t seen elsewhere. Plus they were good-natured about my nabbing a table next to a power point and firing up the laptop, which not all places are.

When I got to chatting with them about the closure, they said that they’ve already sold the premises: it’ll be in renovations for a while and will apparently reopen as a Chinese/Vietnamese eatery in a few weeks.

Sure JB, any suggestions?

Do you count the mexican joints?

This place was one of Big Jim’s favourite places to eat. Good portions, cheap prices and tasty food. Big Jim is sorry to see it go.

Are there any other similar places in Canberra (i.e. reasonably priced sth American)?

i note that the indian place near goodberries in belco has gone, and a viet place opened up nearby.

i am just bitter and twisted about rincon closing down >:(

you are indeed correct johnboy 🙂

well that’s for the market to decide Toriness

But I wouldn’t be investing in another one myself.

i love vietnamese food. but aren’t there enough asian-style eateries in civic already??

i went there for my farewell lunch special yesterday – pizza and a glass of house red for 10 bucks. and how i piled on the chilli! *sigh* oh i’ll miss it!!

bad news for me.

i enjoyed its down at heel shambolic feel. reminded me of real sth american places.

In my experience their supplies of pisco were a tad irregular.

In the past year or so it’s always been “we’ve just run out”. Upon further grilling, there’s a smile and the admission that they’ve “just run out” on a permanent basis.

Still, it’s a pity they’re going.

lol, better make it real soon then JB.

must say that i have really enjoyed the food there on the few occaisions i’ve been.

And today being Peru Independence Day of all things!

I’ll sorely miss the pisco sours. I walked by just last night thinking I should go in there sometime soon.
