For Gungahlin folk who’ve been wondering about the so-called “Concerned Citizens of Canberra” and their dog-whistle objections against the mosque to be built in our town centre, this interview with the ringleader on 2CC today is revealing and essential listening.

I think Mike Welsh tried really hard to be fair, but this guy is his own worst enemy.

Listen for yourself:

Highlighting the specific religious intolerance of this numpty is not an excuse to engage in a bit of bigotry yourself. I’ll never understand why it’s OK to bash Christianity, but Islam, at least as whacky and oppressive, is somehow off limits to criticism by anyone who wants to be thought of as ‘progressive’.

Nope, I reserve the right to take the absolute piss out of any religion, just as anyone else has the right to bash my beliefs. The difference is that unlike the usual suspects on this site I won’t stand up and scream ‘bigot’ whenever anyone speaks out against my own views.

Allow me to buy you a drink, sir. 😀

Walshs, Thursday Nights after 7pm. I will be the one smoking an old fashioned pipe. 🙂

The guy is simply stupid. Everything else stems from that.

His arguments are stupid, his responses are stupid and his cause is stupid.

Yep. Struggled miserably with a simple yes/no question about himself, and it was all downhill from there. Surprised myself by listening all the way through this drivel.

Oh. My. FSM.

That’s just how political correctness works in our society; it’s always OK to bash the perceived beneficiary of social bias. Sexism is out, but anti-male-bias is OK. Racism is out, but anti-Anglo-bias is OK. In the case of religion, it’s open slather on Christianity.
Not taking sides here – it’s just the way it is.

Bloody hell, not sure if twit actually covers how Mr Ross should be categorised.

Retarded ignorant pos i think works better

And the people who slapped a fatwa on Salman Rushdie demanding he be killed on account of writing a novel?

What do you call them?

And here’s your challenge: find me just one Australian mufti or “spokesman for the islamic community” he says that fatwa is wrong.

what does Salman Rushdie have to do with gunghalin?

Hey now, thats insulting to genuinely retarded people!

fair enough.

retracted!

although i do not know how else to describe him.

LOL, although I can think of many colourful names, I think its better not to stoop to his level. If I had to pick a term though id go with “unevolved” personally 😛 To quote bill hicks:

“You know how in many parts of our troubled world they are yelling ‘revolution! revolution!’ The Concerned Citizens of Canberra are yelling ‘evolution…we want our thumbs!’ The thing is they see people with thumbs on T.V. all day, boy that’s got to drive them hog-wild huh?”

Ok I liberated that quote just a *tad* but it works so well 😛

More than a whiff of hypocrisy from Welsh, (and in previous threads here on this topic).

WTF has this guy got to do with sexual abuse by Catholic clergy? Just as not all Muslims are terrorists, not all ‘Christians’ are kiddy fiddlers.

I think you need to listen to it again. He wasn’t bashing Christianity, he was making the point you just made, not all Muslims are terrorists just like not all catholics are pedos.
He was asking why only go after Muslims and not any group that has a bad person in it.

“I don’t know wether you have someone else who might be a better spokesperson” classic LOL

Ok, the conflicting press release statements part is pretty damn funny, love how he nails him to the wall on that one!

This issue is not only of concern to residents of Gungahlin. Even people as far away as the inner north support religious freedom.

Freedom of speech is just as important. Unfortunately, this short-sighted new legislation will also scoop up anyone who takes the mickey out of a nonsense, litigious, unethical nutjob “religion” such as Scientology. Not to mention Landmark. Which well-heeled cults will hound anyone who refers to, e.g. “levitation” as a nonsense? Many of them. Scientology has a shocking history of bullying apostates. Danish cartoon debacle, anyone?
I am totally against legislation that creates sedition of mockery and comment. Fully support a mosque in Gungahin; reserve my right to joke about Mohammed.

I think that’s drawing a long bow Poetix. Denizens of the inner north support skinny lattes and sauvignon blanc blended with their semillon, but religious freedom? Do you really think so? 🙂

Mike Welsh smashed him. I lol’d.

What a incredible bell end.

Anybody who listened to that and still thinks he as any credibility needs to kill themselves immediately.
