With candidates now finalised for the 2008 election we in turn have finalised our list of questions for them as suggested by you the readers.

We’ll endeavour to send them to all candidates but if you’re running and haven’t got one don’t be shy.

Here are this election’s questions:

1) What will be your number 1 spending priority, and what are you willing to de-fund in order to pay for it?

2) Who would you least like to see elected, and why?

3) What particular industries do you see as vital to the continued growth and success of the ACT economy?

4) How will you/your party work to improve motorist’s skills and compliance with all road traffic laws in the ACT?

5) Would you support legislation to outlaw restrictions on companion animals in rental/lease agreements?

6) In 15 words or less, why should anyone vote for you?

7) What do you plan to do to arrest the decay of the older (City Walk/Petrie Plaza/Garema Place) part of Civic?

8) Will you vote to allow club style non profit poker card game tournaments to be played in Canberra?

9) Do you support the current system of policing Canberra as a part of the AFP or would you prefer to see a different model implemented. What steps will you take to ensure tougher and/or more realistic sentences are handed down from the judiciary in the ACT?

10) What is your personal view of taxpayer funded public art?

& some other as well I’m sure, although you’d imagine not a major election issue for most. Still, much more relevant & important than…

“8) Will you vote to allow club style non profit poker card game tournaments to be played in Canberra?”

Althought Q8 will help a hell of a lot more people work out who to vote for than 2) Who would you least like to see elected, and why?…

If you can pay attention to the detail then you should be able to get the other stuff right – well maybe we are talking about politicians here.

I like the questions – probably would have said 25 words though.

DVD = Coaster

We’re collecting them at the Pot Belly for that very use.

True that…& I didn’t mean to sound as critical as I did (on reading back what I posted), I was just having a laugh really. At least those questions will make them think, rather than pull something from the pre-prepared answer box.

Something to be said for at least fixing the little things.

The big issues.

Big one for me.

The big issues.

Ahh the ol DVD finally makes its way to the ACT. That’s been a common one in the US for a reasonable amount of time now.

Not sure of the exact number of candidates but is there any chance of a tally board, showing who was sent the questionnaire, who responds and when?

Q4 seems like a niche area to me as well, and seems aimed fairly at the Motorists Party.

I don’t think it’s particularly niche – certainly not peculiar to the Motorist’s Party. As a cyclist and motorcyclist, I’m keenly interested in how it’s answered.

Speaking of all things election, how many other people received a DVD from the Labor party today?

I received a letter from John and Katy, and separately a DVD placed loosely in the letterbox. My dad got the letter but not the DVD.

Really good questions, with some nice niche areas covered (Q8 & Q10)

That’s your job Aurelius.

Overly fluffy replies tend to get savaged.

Responses need to be filtered for apple pie content.

I imagine most respondent’s answers to the second part of Q1 would be.. we won’t defund anything.

hehe.. I imagine quite a few people will steer clear of answering Q2 (at least steer clear from naming a specific person)

great work to those that suggested the questions.
