On a recent RiotACT thread about Green’s candidate Lyn Hatfield Dodds http://the-riotact.com/?p=23848, I suggested that she commits to full indexation of ComSuper pensions. In this government town, that may get her over the line at the looming election.

Lo and behold, today the Crimes reports that she supports proper indexation of service and APS pensions.

Now that both sides, Mike Kelly and Bob McMullen for the ALP, and Humphries for the Coalition, have failed to convince their respective parties of the fairness of such a move, perhaps the Greens can make the breakthrough.

To all current and retired service and APS personnel – this is the best reason yet for voting Green at the next election. Fair and equitable indexation will make your hard-earned pension last the distance.

On that basis, we all have to vote for anyone who supports full indexation of Commonwealth Pensions, including Mike Kelly and Bob McMullen (or his replacement, if he commits) for the ALP, and Humphries for the Coalition, but they can’t do anything by themselves. Oh wait … neither can Hatfield-Dodds.

Sounds like the election is really gearing up, what with NBN announcements and hopeful promises from third parties.

Nice to know you are a shill for the Greens

The problem is that this assumes it will actually happen if she is elected. The Greens, at best, will hold the balance of power, to pass legislation such as outlined above they would need support for the legislative changes of the party that formed government ie holds a majority in the lower house, which from the sounds of it, they won’t have.

This is the joy of being a small party – you can promise anything but can’t be held to account as you can blame the major parties for not supporting your policies.
