Canberra has long harboured a passionate underground music scene of experimental, avant-garde and generally left-of-field sound artists. Two of its most respected members, Fossil Rabbit and Melt, will be constructing various sonic landscapes at sideway’s Commune this Wednesday, alongside relative newcomers Peach Lane.

Legendary Canberra label/party collective/funmakers Box Cutter are bringing renowned Melbourne hip-hop group 3K to sideway on Thursday. An allocation of free tickets are available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people – get in touch with Box Cutter if the offer applies to you.

Stonefest returns to UC this weekend after a decade-long absence. Mallrat, Skegss, Thelma Plum, British India and a host of other acts join locals Sputnik Sweetheart, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, Moaning Lisa and the ARIA-nominated Genesus Owusu in taking over UC Refectory and UC Hub all Saturday afternoon and into the night. If you’re after a more intimate setting, head to UC Hub on Thursday night to catch ‘Boys Will Be Boys’ singer Stella Donnelly.

Friday night sees the Sandy Evens Trio performing an uplifting Indian-Jazz intercultural collaboration with Tabla player Bobby Singh at Ainslie Arts Centre.

Come Sunday, you might (understandably) need to take a little time. The Braddon Busking Festival runs all day, offering you the chance to stroll along Lonsdale Street as the sounds of Canberra’s street performers make you forget that Monday looms uncomfortably close.
