RiotACT Sim Challenge Round Three - How Wayne went

Wayne Sievers (ALP for Brindabella) was a bit of a surprise packet last night in the RiotACT Sim Challenge at All Bar Nun.

Despite being very tentative in the tutorials, and obviously overwhelmed at times by the information overload, he soldiered on diligently, consulted advisers both in-game and out, poured over the metrics, and ended up recording some very good scores.

We were all a little surprised when Wayne opted for a high density urban plan right from the start.

It worked though. Combined with heavy investment in a bus system it let him build a large population with minimal investment in health, safety, or roads.

Development continued apace without running deficit budgets and there was never any need to borrow.

Wayne encouraged business and industry, refusing to tax heavy industry punitively despite a heavy environmental toll on his city of New Tuggeranong.

He did, however, invest heavily in parks and trees. His disaster was a lightning storm in one of the bustling commercial districts and the infrastructure held up nicely.

A dense population and burgeoning heavy industry had a thirsty need for electricity and three gas fired power stations were needed (well away from residential areas), as well as a slew of wind turbines.

New Tuggeranong was no place for extravagance or frippery. Wayne declined the option to build either a city hall or a University.

While keen to invest in education he felt that a town of ~20,000 people was too small for a uni.

In the end he’d advanced ten game years, had a population of 18,000, money still in the bank, and glowing approval in most metrics with some work to be done on public safety and land value (but still positive approval of his handling). The trouble spot was the environment.

He had seven bars of Mayor rating with the trend on the up.

UPDATED: The next one is at 7pm on Thursday 28 August. 7pm. The candidate as Adam Verwey, independent for Ginninderra. All Bar Nun, O’Connor.

Bless Wayne for building his gas turbine power stations far away from residential areas in Tuggeranong (sighs)

I was previously engaged. A gig at the Phoenix actually 😉

I was previously engaged. Twice. (Didn’t follow through the second time around — bloused out. We even had the reception venue booked.)

Sorry, that was so predictable even I knew I was going to say that.

Hope the gig went well, Thumper. Really wanted to get to it myself.

Radio show slots have now been switched so I’ll be at ABN on Thursday evening.

typical.

I was given my first leave pass in years and hardly anyone turned up.

won’t be able to swing another one this week.

oh, well. will have to see when i can make it again….

I enjoyed myself last night, was fun to see wayne in charge of new tuggeranong, and to meet john, che, jazz and ari. shame there weren’t more RA participants there…..

Would have liked to have been there but it clashed with the weekly trivia nights I’ve started running in Dickson. And I think the next challenge clashes with my next radio program, but I’ll get along to the next challenge when physically possible.

Good on you, peterh!

: )

and to get my pin with premium membership – looks good on my lapel…

Sounds like a no nonsense straight forward kind of game and guy. I can dig.
