ACT Policing is asking members of the public for assistance after a motorist was assaulted yesterday morning (Wednesday, January 30).

Around 8.35am at the intersection of Newcastle and Gladstone Street Fyshwick (opposite McDonalds) a man in a silver Mercedes Benz sedan got out of his vehicle, walked to the driver’s side of a white Ford wagon and began punching the driver of the Ford.

After punching the man several times, the offender returned to his vehicle and left the area.

The offender is described as being of Pacific Islander appearance, and about 30 years of age. He is between 5’6” to 5’10” tall with short dark-brown hair. He was wearing dark-coloured shorts and a singlet. He was the front passenger of the Mercedes. The driver was a woman with blonde hair.

Acting Superintendent of Traffic Operations Rod Anderson condemned the attack.

“Violence on our roads is inexcusable,” Acting Superintendent Anderson said.

“We all need to share the road, and drive patiently with consideration for all road users. Violent conduct of any sort has no place on our roads, or in Canberra.”

Police are urging anyone who witnessed or recorded the incident to contact ACT Policing Operations on 131 444. Information can also be given to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via their website www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

It might be a 1978 220, these things can be picked up for a couple of grand.

I assume the Mercedes had a bumper sticker reading “My other car is a white Commodore”.
