Road rules are just a suggestion

Oops

Rioter CC was on the ball to get us this picture, but sadly the subject of the picture wasn’t:

What’s wrong with this picture? Oh, the driver of the white Holden Cruze is on the wrong side of a dual carriage way with two lanes of traffic now coming towards him. I guess he didn’t see the ‘Keep Left’ sign when he turned out of Reed St.

“It wasn’t me that was going the wrong way, it was everybody else” 🙂

Last week i was confronted by an expensive black SUV driving the wrong way on Captain Cock Cres. Despite repeatedly flashing her the attractive well groomed blonde woman totally ignored me and continued on her merry way.

Clearly she was distracted by the street name

My sister knew him when he was just a lieutenant.

I wonder if he had a relative in the army who achieved the rank of Major?

I also saw a car using the bike lane to negotiate the roundabout near Tuggeranong the other day. Its a bike lane that is seperated by a median strip. as seen on google maps….

Well, it does look as big as the lanes for all other/motorised traffic!

Driving is hard with a car full of bargains.

You see this A LOT on the roads around Costco, especially the one that goes between Majura Rd and Costco/Brand Depot. it’s bloody funny to watch it unfold, idiot doggedly ploughs along, with confused cars coming towards them, no one knows what to do. Love it. Not entirely sure why this section of road causes this, either it’s oddly designed (although it seems normal to me) or there’s more idiots attracted to Costco and Big W.

Costco does seem to attract many people who may be new to Australia and our traffic rules.

I had someone do this quite deliberately the other day on Wakefield Avenue, at peak hour. They just couldn’t be bothered waiting in the traffic on their side of the road!

Had this happen more than a few times on Ginninderra Drv. Heading out of Dunlop between Kerrigan St and the Florey Drv roundabout it’s not uncommon for someone to be barreling toward you at speed not realising that Ginninderra is no longer a dual carriageway after that roundabout.

Having said that – it is right next to Charnwood….

Yikes.
One night I was on the GDE heading south into the Glenloch Interchange and went down the ramp towards the city only to encounter a car coming the other way and crawling along the right curb so they obviously knew they were going the wrong way.
Once I was stopped at the lights on Wentworth Ave facing east and some nutter tried to squeeze their car between my bus and a car in the other lane. I guess the other driver and I were so stunned we did nothing.
The worst though was some driver with a trailer heading west on the east bound lanes of the Hume Highway at over 100 km/h. I beeped at them and they looked over at me. I saw the horrified look of comprehension hit them after a few seconds followed by a rapid application of brakes.

Oh yes, I’ve seen people use that separated bike lane as a traffic lane fairly often. Often it’s P plate hoons from the college, but once it was a blonde in a Merc 4×4 who looked a bit confused why the vehicle seemed not to fit comfortably between the kerbs.

I’ve seen it a few times too. As far as I can tell those times it wsa people who did it accidently. Obviously poor drivers, but it is poorly designed. As soon as they put it in it was predictable that idiots would drive down it. Perhaps a nice solid bollard may be useful.

Very good 🙂

I see this all the time on Brisbane Avenue – along with at least one car accident every 3 months. It’s hard to comprehend why people find this so difficult.

Yeah, see it from time to time. Usually an honest error probably made by some one out of their comfort zone. Just another thing to be alert to.

I have had a car coming towards me on the wrong side of the road on the old Russell Roundabout, and the Woden roundabout. But the best fun I had was when I was going down the off ramp Commonwealth Ave onto Parkes Way and met a car coming up that same ramp. That was almost an undies changing experience. The car just blasted across 3 lanes of Commonwealth Ave then across the huge grass median strip and continued south on his merry way.

I have seen this on roundabouts, with the driver turning right the most direct way, both time they were DC number plates. I try to forgive them, yet i have no issues driving on the right side of the road in other countries.

The only time I encounted someone going the wrong way down a carriageway was when the newly duplicated section of Cotter Road. Some old guy came the wrong way, so I just came at him with the high beam. At the last minute I just swerve out of the way. He then heads over to the right side.

None of this can be worse then seeing a Highway Patrol officer pulling someone up on the top of the hill on the Hume Highway just before the Goulbourn turnoff.

The ‘No Entry’ / ‘One Way’ signs at the exit to Hughes and Deakin shops’ one way car park are also to be ignored, apparently.

I don’t see how this could happen… Even if you miss the sign when turning out of Reed St, the line markings should be a dead give away – all the driver would have to do is keep his car inside the lines, not an overly difficult task one would assume.

Keep Left is some sort of Marxist slogan anyway.

Yep I’ve seen ’em going down Northbourne Ave in the wrong direction a few times so i’d suggest this is not a rare event. Last week i was confronted by an expensive black SUV driving the wrong way on Captain Cock Cres. Despite repeatedly flashing her the attractive well groomed blonde woman totally ignored me and continued on her merry way.

Unfortunately for her a white commodore(oh the irony) was behind me travelling the right way ,lights on, in the right hand lane and wasn’t moving across so both stopped momentarily facing each other and the driver of the SUV was forced to perform a U-turn. When will the stupidity end??

Have had this happen to me…twice!

The first: it’s night-time, raining, I’m driving along minding my own business doing 80 on the Monaro highway just going past Hume towards Fyshwick, turn the bend where the big poplar trees are and WOAHHHH THERE’S A FRIGGIN CAR COMING TOWARD ME THE WRONG WAY…AT SPEED!!! Flash my high beams, hit the brakes, pull to the left. What does the freak do? Just kept pushing along on the wrong side of the road. I hope nobody behind me got injured.

The second time: I’m cruising up Commonwealth Avenue, around capital hill, come around the corner next the law courts to the start of Northbourne… again… CARRRR COMING AT ME THE WRONG WAY!!!! Flash lights, check mirrors, pull to the left. The lady in the car loses her nerve and drives up into the small bushes/ground cover next the road there. I wind down my window and ask if she’s alright and she replies. “Yes, thank you! I’m a bit confused about where I’m going” I respond saying…”the only place you’re heading is bloody hospital, take care love. Are you sure you’re alright?” “Yep, I’ll be fine”

Talk about adrenalin rush. My heart is pumping now just remembering those two moments.

Some people have all the fun.
