Chief MInister Gallagher has put her Mayor’s hat on to let it be known what she’s got planned for the roads:
“Local contractor Guideline ACT was recently awarded the $1.3m contract for the upgrade of the Southern Cross Drive and Florey Drive intersection in Belconnen, with works expected to commence this month.
“The project will improve traffic flow and safety at this busy intersection, particularly in peak travel times and will also provide improved pathways and access for pedestrians and cyclists. Traffic signals will be installed to guide all movements through the intersection which will improve vehicle and pedestrian safety.
“In addition, work to upgrade a 1.8 kilometre section of Sutton Road in the ACT, improving road safety for people travelling across the NSW border into Canberra is starting next week.
“Project funding of $2 million has been provided by the Australian Government through the Roads to Recovery program with the work to be undertaken by Hewatt Earthworks Pty Ltd.
“Sutton Road is an important transport corridor linking rural NSW and Womboin to the regional capital, Canberra, and carries in excess of 2,500 vehicles per day.
“The works will include pavement rehabilitation, targeted improvements to the road alignment and associated improvements to stormwater drainage, signage and infrastructure.
“The ACT Government is currently undertaking numerous projects across Canberra to improve road safety and reduce travelling times.
“These include the Majura Parkway, the Belconnen to City transit way, the Monaro Highway duplication and the Cotter Road upgrade as well as the recently completed upgrade to the Kings Highway,” the Chief Minister concluded.
