Robert Walter Wyatt – The Worst Driver in Canberra?

By johnboy - 24 June 2010 10

The ABC brings word that Magistrate Beth Campbell has seen fit to label Rivett’s Robert Walter Wyatt as having the worst driving record she’s ever seen on his eighteenth charge:

The ACT magistrates court heard he has suspended sentences for driving offences in New South Wales and the ACT, one of which was imposed in June last year.

Magistrate Beth Campbell said his traffic record was the worst she has seen.

In sentencing him to 12 months in jail, she told the court he had shown total disregard for his previous disqualifications and was in the worst category of disqualified driving offenders.

She said the community needed to be protected.

Prison time for traffic offences. Seriously, how dumb do you have to be?

What’s Your opinion?

Another Mully……he’ll be out in 6 months and will back to to the same antics.

@Johnboy – well, he’d be front and centre for this month’s Mully nominations…

Pfft, seven comments.

It’s Mark Parton by a county mile!

So what did he actually *do* this time?

I’m sure we’re all better-off with this verdict, but it’d be nice to get some details about what he’s actually doing that’s so dangerous (Speeding? Hit-and-run? Failing to indicate a lane-change? Ignoring red lights?).

Well, he had his licence disqualified for some reason or rather, probably drink driving or something like that.

He then continued to drive with a disqualified licence, he keeps getting caught driving with a disqualified licence, that is the offence that he was doing. Why is it dangerous? No Compulsory Third Party Insurance (CTPI), no insurance of any kind, he gets into an accident who is going to pay the bills?

I’m hoping when JB said “Seriously prison time for traffic offence, how dumb do you have to be” I’m hoping really hoping he meant how dumb for someone to commit so many offences that they get imprisoned as opposed to how dumb is that some can be imprisoned by law because of traffic offences.

He went before a magistrate other than Higgins!

I say its about time. I agree with the Magistrate.

Having his licence suspended hasn’t stopped him from driving and something needed to be done to protect the community.

+1
But why has it taken 18 times?
Surely 5-6 is more than enough chances, even in the A.C.T ?

On the other hand, he’d avoided it for 18 previous disqualifications and the ignoring thereof. Eighteen. That’s a pretty good basis for assuming you’ll continue to avoid any serious legal consequences.
