A 30-year-old man was injured and his car windscreen was damaged after an object struck his vehicle early this morning (Tuesday, August 2).

Around 4.30am, the man was driving southbound along Parkes Way when an object, believed to be a lump of concrete, struck his vehicle as he was travelling under the footbridge between Allara Street and Commonwealth Park.

The object shattered the vehicle’s windscreen, forcing the driver to stop his car on Parkes Way. The man received treatment for a small cut to his head by paramedics at the scene.

The man told police he saw two teenage males on the bridge around the time of the incident. One of the males was wearing a dark coloured “hoodie” jumper.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or saw two teenage males near Parkes Way around 4.30am today to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

Exactly how many credible witnesses are you going to find at 4:30am??
Oh yeah, I saw him…wearing a hooded jumper….I was 100m away at the time but I can provide an absolutely accurate description of the back of his head…..oh yeah, he lives at…his name is…..
To be absolutely honest with ourselves as a community, we are not going to prosecute this kind of crime with 24hr surveillance, or any other kind of evidence except for an officer of the law who catches them at the time of the offense. I’m not trying to give these clowns an excuse, nor suggest another approach to combat the crime. It is simply a fact of life that no-gooders will attack when they are most likely to get away with it.
Now if we had the likes of Judge Dredd or something from the “Sixth Day” things might be better. But then people like myself would complain about the invasion of privacy.
What do we do????

If this happened to me, and I was still alive and mobile, I’d be out of the car and after the bastards who did it like a rocket.

I’m glad the driver is OK. he could easily have been killed.

My Dads mate had this happen to him while driving in Melbourne few years ago.

Difference is that he chased the man down with his car, got out and kicked his arse good and proper. The guy (who turned out to be over 20yo) ended up getting the number plate of the car and called the police. My dad’s mate was charged with assault and almost discharged from the Army.

He doesn’t regret it to this day.

Just saw a local news team at the bridge. Cameraman had picked up a rock he found at the base of a nearby tree and he and the very hot looking news reader were examining it. She was smokin!!!!

Look forward to seeing her later on WIN.

=-)

I think you posted under the worng user name Mr G…*busted*

That was Gemma Coombe. She is not as hot as some of the other chicks (past AND present), but thanks for pointing that out! hahaha

At least you used the right user name this time. With hindsight it was so obvious that Captain RAAF = Mr Gillespie. The writing style is almost exactly the same, with the only differences being that Mr G uses more CAPS LOCK and has a more hysterical edge. That being said, well done.

……..Perhaps the surveilance cameras could double up as speed cameras? A great way to enforce the law on two fronts.

Problem is, speed cameras would be aimed at the cars falling victim to the rock throwers, whereas the cameras I talk about would be there a crime-prevention measure, aimed at the rock-throwers themselves.

Thats OK Mr.G, We can still keep your dream of more speed camera’s alive, Just put 2 different camera’s on the same pole.

Or pehaps thats to obvios, YOU’RE RIGHT MR.G, We should hide tha speed cameras!

I’ll start a petition, and credit it to you! More Servelence camera’s on bridges, and other danger zones, And More Hidden speeed camera’s for Mr.G!

What a good idea, hide the speed cameras, thanks Mr Gillespie!!!

Agreed. Prhaps, once they are caught, people could drop rocks on them from the bridge? Sounds fair.

Remember the recent news about the Iranian woman, victim of an acid attack, who was given a choice to decide the fate of her attacker through Sharia law (I think) that involves suffering the same harm as the victim?

For once I thought that was a damn good idea, and did spit the dummy when she actually pardoned him.

It comes down to taking responsibility for your own action. Ferals that cause deliberate act of grievous bodily harm deserve just that in return. That is the only way they will learn, that is the only way that is truly fair.

So that’s why they’re building these big, ugly eyesores on bridges now.

Sad, isn’t it. They could instead invest in surveillance cameras on all overpass bridges and bring these oxygen thieves to justice juvenile or not. It was a mistake building that holiday resort they call “Bimberi”. What was wrong with Quamby, they could have increased security there to stop the escapes, not make a nicer “human rights-compliant” holiday camp where these little retches do these things just to get a nice holiday inside.

Horah to CSRI and Mr.G for there suggestion to install more speed camera’s!

Combining the functions of camera’s in locations such as this woould be a usefull way to help track down criminals, and prevent crime, whilst freeing up police resorces to do so.

Some say speed camea’s do nothing to fee up police, That is beace there are not enough speed camera’s!

As for these two rock throwoing dero’s, I really hope next time they decide to do this, they trip and fall off instead, preferably the day before barriers are installed! (I hate the barriers, but still, that would be beautifull irony!)

A camera doesnt stop them from throwing stuff, where a large cage does. If the juvenile system here is similar to NSW, you can get away with almost anything when under 18. Of course i’d like to see the little shit get caught by police, but in reality he’s going to get a juvenile caution (aka slap on the wrist) and thats about it.

F*%king rock dropping scumbags

Unbelievable – I was drivng under that bridge last week and thought to myself I wonder how long it will take before it gets caged – like the one at the bottom of Ginninderra Drive.

I guess not long.

I disagree.

Dropping them from the bridges into the path of moving vehicles, would be far more apt.

What if we got one to drive Mia80’s surplus Mazda along the road and threw the other one at the car as it passed underneath?

Three birds. One stone(r).

The Etymology of ‘hoodlum’ does not refer to the wearing of ‘hoods’ or of coming from the (neighbour) ‘hood’ but is likely to have come from the Bavarian ‘huddellump’ meaning ‘good-for-nothing’.

Nevertheless Hoodlum= One who wears a hoodie is a good and valid folk etymology.

Pretty piss poor effort.

Hopefully we don’t end up with ugly cages on our bridges to help prevent this behaviour.

Nothing surer now … it’s the only response the gummint has.

For some years I have been in favour of using hoodie wearing as way of identify criminality but unfortunately a couple of months ago my sig other bought me one which is not only extremely comfy but also makes me look trendy for the first time in years.

So I’m torn; do I give up my prejudice against hoodie wearers and just look for criminality by judging a person by their actions rather than their clothing? or as a new hoodie wearer do I condemn myself as a ‘hoodlum’?

NB: Here I diverge from the traditional use ‘hoodlum’ which refers to a lawless youth, thug or criminal (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/hoodlum) to refer specifically to to a person who wears a ‘hoodie’ and is therefore assumed to also to be of criminal nature or display antisocial behaviours. The Etymology of ‘hoodlum’ does not refer to the wearing of ‘hoods’ or of coming from the (neighbour) ‘hood’ but is likely to have come from the Bavarian ‘huddellump’ meaning ‘good-for-nothing’.

I consider public execution by stoning to be cruel and unusual but I’d be willing to make an exception for these two hooded degenerates.

I agree with #1

neanderthalsis9:27 am 02 Aug 11

These cretins should be publicly pissed on. IMHO, throwing a rock/lump of concrete at a car should be classed as attempted murder, as death is certainly a possibility in many cases.
