Roller Soccer...?

Yeap just as it says … playing soccer on skates (you kick the ball with your skates on!) Either inline or quads – that doesn’t matter. But trust me, it is truely a great, addictive, fun game.

Don’t believe me? Have a look at www.rollersoccer.com – It’s not the greatest website but hey!

How would I know?? Well, I played in English team for a few years before permanently moving to Canberra.

There are teams worldwide (USA, Brazil, Germany, France, England, Netherlands to name just a few) and a ‘World Cup’ is played every year.

It’s generally played indoors but ultimately that’s due to the weather in the UK but probably not necessarily here. It’s more important to find a nice surface that we can have access to.

I’m keen to start up the sport here in the ACT, that is if I can get the demand. If not Roller Soccer then I’m happy to try starting up (Men’s) Roller Derby or even Roller Hockey!!?? Could even consider Roller Squash or Roller Polo if pushed LOL!!

Anyway, please get in contact if this is of interest to you tune_man@hotmail.com – very early days but hope it could be the trigger of something FUN!

Cheers

A.C.T. Inline hockey closed up years ago. There is only ice now.

Is the roller soccer full contact?

Hi Disposable,

You are allowed contact but not full contact – just the same as regular soccer.

It is recommended to wear head-gear and pads but not compulsory.

Main rules are only contact with the ball is with your skates (inc goalies). Can’t interfere with play if any part of your body is touching the ground…

It sounds a bit frustrating for me unless you can knock the people on their arse that are trying to take the ball away from you.

There used to be a group in Melbourne that played Lacrosse on skates on the Inline rink.

Well you perfectly allowed to knock people on their arse if you’re going for (and get) the ball but must be before you take them out!!

Since when was soccer a contact sport?

I believe that Roller hockey is already available out at Hume?? Google should bring it up. I would suspect the Canberra Roller Derby League might look at starting a mens comp down the track if there was enough interest, that is pure speculation based on what I’ve heard of other areas that have started up Roller Derby Leagues.
