Ronald McDonald House for Canberra

I just read this and thought – what a great cause (and a new car would be nice too). I went to the site to check the price and no big surprise $100 per ticket. Of course that makes perfect mathematical sense when there are only 2,500 tickets. The thing is though, I can’t afford to buy a $100 ticket. I could afford ‘say’ a $20 ticket… so what is the logic in effectively ‘turning away’ $20 and all the others like me? Is it because more people will participate in a 1:2,500 ratio than a 1:12,500 ratio? I am not being obtuse about the economics – rather I’m interested in how the whole raffle psche works.

Oh and I forgot to mention, the facility had seperate areas for sleeping, approx 1/2 dozen rooms with individual locks… And a 6ft 10 Ronald McDonald on point at the inside of the front door…

Just as a point of interest, I thought I should mention that on the PaTCH ward (Paeds @ TCH) there is a McDonalds sponsored boarding facility.

Though its not free, its was $11 a night when Mrs Danman and I had to stay there whilst Miss Danman had her cochlear implants inserted at the ripe old age of 8 months.

Its basically a communal living area with dining table and living room Big TV, with gaming facilities for the ruggies, well appointed kitchen (not kitchenette) and stocked with snack food/drinks/toast/sandwich making ingredients.

Though its not stand alone accomodation, it allowed Mrs Danman and I to make the ward our home base for the time that Miss Danman was in surgery and meant that we could tag team the sleeping arrangements without having to travel back and forth from far north..Also, as there was some serious complications during surgery and recovery, we were on call 24/7 without having to factor in travel time.

From what I remember, it was $11 a night, but that may be because Mrs Danman works on another ward within th ehospital.

thats awesome news! at least they did something right!! if only they could Fix the car parking issues for the pregnant women who have to walk half a mile to get to their appointments!!

Does the A5 come with a mistress, a double diagonal parking space and wealth with which to rub in people’s faces?
