roo burger

The Village has taken up residence in Glebe Park and this lunchtime was full of a seemingly infinite number of school kids being lectured about sustainability as expressed by vegetables.

Here’s a look:

the village the village line

What drew me in was the knowledge Robert Guth was running a roo burger stall as Sourdough Man.

Bread is an oft overlooked component of a great burger Robert is a bread ninja.

For $10 I got the above pictured roo burger and a big cup of scalding hot pumpkin soup.

The soup, to be honest, bore a strong resemblance to hot mashed pumpkin. Delicious if you’re into that. To be honest I prefer mine with a lot of salt, pepper, coriander, and cumin, but to each their own.

For $6 though the roo burger is a work of art.

Great bread (as expected), lovely thick patty well grilled, beetroot, a little bit of sauerkraut,

This particular $10 lunch is only running until 24 March 2013. The Village is going to be totally worth checking out at night as well (I’ll be there Friday night).

(For more sub $10 lunches in Civic check the tag, if you’ve got recommendations let me know.)

Truth to tell we had a stick blender breakdown so could not get the roast onion/parprika/cummin goodness blended through properly yesterday.

For roast pumpkins aficionados they are roasted before being mashed. Though I did get as much flavor gain as I was hoping for, I lost surface area exposed to heat when I went from my normal batch size of ten kg to twenty.

And yes I am the Chow of Art-Is-An Bread bread swaps from last year, the bread is the same. Thank you all for making my doctoral research a success. Now free from academic rigour I am continuing to research on feeding people as part of artworks. This project is logistical capacity building so I will not be completely overworked for possible upcomming gigs at the Darwin Festival and Singapore Biennale.

With that in mind the pumpkin soup is the option for vegan punters, so alas there is no animal stock in there.

Fair call on the pumpkin soup

Not trying to tell you how to do you job, but are you mixing it with enough stock, such as chicken? (or roos even … though not sure how well a roo stock goes down).

Also, don’t listen to JB. He’s got his own unique taste buds, which sometimes is from a different planet.
I’d recommend something simple such as chopped parsley sprinkled on top to give it that fresh aroma.

Pumpkin soup is always horrible, although baked pumpkin is nice.

Would pay $10 for a loaf of that bread though, which I believe I once managed to swap for some jam for a PhD arts project? If that’s the same person. It was a similar name.

I wouldn’t have recognised that as Glebe Park!

Pumpkin soup is always horrible??? You evil monster!

Fair call on the pumpkin soup, we are working to correct the problem. In a cumin paprika direction.

Due to the opening hours of the festival we will not be serving lunch on Friday.
