Roo grave on Mount Taylor

Socket Gar’eh has sent in these pics with this note:

I was heading round Mt Taylor and found what appears to be a dumping site for roadkill.

I counted a good 11+ Roos in various states of decay- I’m not a scientist but I’d say they’ve been dumped over at least a couple of years.

It was a nice hot day and the air was thick with stench so I wasn’t hanging around to count them properly, but it’d be interesting if this was all from just one person working on carcass-removal…

Surely this is a health hazard and the carcasses should be incinerated?

As a side note, my son was fishing in the river near Tuggers Lake (not too far south of Learmonth St Kambah) when rangers came to dump a live brown snake they had removed from someone’s backyard. Said that was where they always took ’em. Personally I am not happy that snakes are getting dumped that close to homes.

That is hardly close to houses & if you think there are no brown snakes in any of the parks or in the suburbs you probably need to get out ther & have another look. We live in a low density city with loads of parkland. We live with the wildlife.
Also, for all the scaremongering about snakes, very few people are bitten every year. They do not go around chasing you & will really only bite if they have no other choice.

If I were you, I would stop being worried & actually get out there & understand them.

How do you interest the Rangers in removing a live brown snake to any destination apart from one’s backyard!! They told me the one I came face to face with was ”probably just passing through’ and did not warrant any action at all.

Gee, they’re improving. This time it only took them two days to recycle a story from RA. Usually they don’t do the cut and paste until almost a week later.

Well the local ants need to eat

I hope it was a case of road kill, and not low-life scum taking their jolly’s at shooting our wildlife.

I might start going for walks up there again, just to keep an eye out.

This is the only post tagged ‘mass grave’ on Riot Act. Sometimes it’s a good thing that Canberra is so boring.
