Hi all, I’m in a dilemma,

I am new to Canberra and wanting a good dentist who is able to remove a root canal. I have done some internet searches on problems they cause, I have had an ongoing swollen left gland, tenderness directly at the point in the jaw near the root canal and spasms in my neck, weakness in my joints and all this took over in a milisecond. After thinking back to before I had this root canal done in Brisbane, I had felt a lot better over all. Time to remove it, let me know your experience please.

If you’re wondering about this yourself just google root canal removal or roottv.com and the list of why to remove it is endless. I will also be wanting amalgum removals too so please let me know your opinion on this too.

Dr Pham in Dickson is so gentle and caring.

Carmello bonano was excellent for me. I was an easy job for him with my wisdom tooth, however he was also pleasant to deal with, and as he says “all I do is pull teeth!”….
I am not sure what you need done, but if its a tooth removed, I would strongly recommend him. Priced well too.
Cheers
Steve

I agree, I’ve had 2 teeth removed by Carmelo. No pain, no infections and highly recommend him

Have to give a -1 to Dr Lin in Kaleen, months of waiting to see one of her useless lackys who took multiple visits to butcher me, fill my teeth with fillings that I continue to doubt their need and didn’t actually address the issues that I was having. Worst practice I have ever been to

I live in Lyons and I travel all the way to Kaleen to see Dr Linhlan NGUYEN (ph 6241 6718) as she is a fantastic and caring dentist. I had a crown done there recently and about to get another one done soon along with other work. I recommend you get a check up with her first and she can then give you a quote, so there are no nasty surprises.

If you want to save at least 80% on Australian dental fees then consider going to the Philippines. Accommodation and transportation is free and the return airfares from Brisbane or Sydney are far less than the cost of just one porcelain crown here. Implants for US$400 and crowns for US$160 is what it cost me from a western trained english speaking dentist. If you want details email me at gmail. My user name is macbazzy

i’ll do it.

ten bucks.

Have to give a -1 for Preventative Dentistry.
The missus has been dealing with them for too long as a patient and has had an extremely poor experience with them.
The Nyugens in Kambah or Dr Chellapah in Weston I can recommend.

I think you should just tally the votes.

Surely you didnt expect to get the answer you were looking for with this question ?!?! So far I count in this thread that there are around 10 Dentists who are “the best in ACT”. So which one is the best?

hey muFasa I agree Carmello had a great ‘bedside manner’ and certainly put me at ease. Mine was a very easy and straightforward job, so my experience was excellent (as was the price) but I think his approach really helped any nerves Ihad at the time! Cheers

I always go to William Thompson in Manuka. He’s friendly, cheap, deals well with total Detalphobes like me, and does a great job.

yup thailand is cheap as chips and their facilities make australia look 2nd rate.

For a root canal, you would need an endodentist rather than a dentist, presuming you want to see if there is a chance of saving it by redoing it correctly rather than extracting.
I’d suggest Stephen Dahlstrom at Brindibella Medical Centre.

Not true, you do not need a endodentist for root canal, this is a myth. I recently had root canal treatment thru Village Dental Care in Kambah and had hardly no pain associated with it. I would highly recommend Bob Goodarzi from Village Dental Care for any dental work.

I also heard of a friend of a friend actually going to Thailand to get a mouth full of ‘beyond repair’ teeth fixed up for a fraction of the price of local costs and a tacked on holiday to boot. Anyone know if this is a viable option?

I had a friend head off to Chiang Mai for the same thing. He was looking at a $20k bill for saving his teeth or a lifetime of eating mush with dentures, but went to thailand and had the same procedures done for 5k and had a decent holiday in the process. The surgery was done in a modern hospital with highly trained dentists.

I recently had a root canal done (damn QLD with their non-fluoridated water)with Dr Bill Thompson in Manuka, no fuss, very little pain and cost wise, on par with most. He is the team dentist for the Brumbies apparently.

Jumping on the Dr Carmelo Bonnano bandwagon here. He pulled my wisdom teeth and was fantastic. Also really good on the price – I was fully knocked out!

Plus – a little bit of comic relief when you are in the chair doesn’t go astray…

I had 3 roots filed out of my head for a bad molar.

I had hyper-sensitive nerves… no amount of anaesthetic could stop the pain, so the dentist (who was amazing and very compassionate) had to stop every half a mm and squirt anaesthetic directly onto the nerve to numb it…

Most painful thing I’ve EVER experienced in my life and would not wish it upon anyone!
It was basically an hours worth of horrible torture. 🙁

+2 Modern Dentistry! I love Dr. Bubear, Ena Lowe there is also great!

@ Bam Bam

Yes, Thailand will do the dentistry at a fraction of the cost (gender re-assignment too).

The thing you need to balance against this is the cost of follow-up if anything goes wrong.

Thomas Mathai at Dental Vitality (located in Deakin) is fantastic – I had my wisdom teeth removed and have had root canal therapy and he is great.

They are also reasonably priced compared to other dentists. I would highly recommend his surgery.

Carmello bonano was excellent for me. I was an easy job for him with my wisdom tooth, however he was also pleasant to deal with, and as he says “all I do is pull teeth!”….

I’d like to know too. I’ve got a couple of dead teeth and all i know is that extraction and some kind of denture is my only (regrettable) option at this point. Shows how long since I’ve been to the dentist!

I also heard of a friend of a friend actually going to Thailand to get a mouth full of ‘beyond repair’ teeth fixed up for a fraction of the price of local costs and a tacked on holiday to boot. Anyone know if this is a viable option?

Root canals, amalgams evil? Next thing you wont be getting your kids vaccinated.
I suppose the only option of removing root canals would be to pull the remaining tooth out?

+1 Modern Dentistry

Excuse me for asking, but if you get a root canal removed what do they do then!?!?

I had a root canal re-done by Geoff Webster at Modern Dentistry quite a few years ago. It took an hour and was heaps less drama than getting the original done 25y back.

I am in the process of getting my amalgams removed. Only two left to go.

At Modern Dentistry I’d recommend Tony Bubear or Rob Waites.

I just recently had my wiz teeth out by Dr Carmelo Bonanno in Woden. Fab results. The crew at City Walk dentist refered me there.

Funnily enough( well not funny really) I had this procedure today.
‘Preventative Dentistry’ in Turner are the best dentists I have come across in 20 years of looking in Canberra. Friendly, helpful, no bullshit.

Here we are 3 hours after I left the surgery, numbness has worn off, and just a very dull ache. I haven’t needed any pain killers. Impressive.

Chris Kwoy at the Ainslie Shops – fantastic dentist.

Dr Anthony Moore of Identity Denistry pulled my wisdom teeth out. It cost me a fraction of the price that Canberra Surgicentre would have charged me if I went through them. He’s a top bloke. His surgery is located above St George Bank City Walk.
