Royal Visit 2011.

By johnboy - 20 October 2011 27

royal barge

We waited by the lake, and we waited, and then the jet skis roared into sight, the motorcade with armoured Land Rover thundered by, and the admirals’ “barge” hove into view.

Apparently the Queen was on board.

I think they are fantastic for their age, coming out here with all the engagements they have done, it would take a lot out of the Queen and Duke.
I saw the Queen in the late 70’s at the Melbourne War Memorial, she actually stopped and said hello to my girls, they were gob smacked, as they were fairly young at the time, she asked the girls their names, I expected one of my girls would say her name was Donal Duck, and she did on many occasions, it made the newspapers, there was a picture of the Queen and my girls.
As for not having a Monarchy, I would rather it stay the same, imagine a Prime Minister being head of Australia, the Americans are jealous of us having the Queen.

Did anyone get pics at St John’s church today? I would love to see some.

Apparently that boat was built in the 1930s. I hope it was inspected for seaworthiness before MH got on board.

Um no, they had the caption on the ABC on Tuesday arv & he said it was built in brisbane in 1992.

I can’t believe the fuss people are making cos the PM didn’t “curtsy” to the Queen I mean talk about snobbish and pompous.

Indeed, it really is lamentable. However, had Gillard curtsied .. could you imagine the headline ‘Self-professes feminist curtsies’ .. the woman can’t do anything right. When she went to the royal wedding, everyone screamed about how an unmarried, Republican had no place to be there .. could you imagine the headline had she rejected the invite based on those reasons!! Such nonsense is really tiring.

I’m a staunch monarchist and even I can’t see what the problem is. Gillard was respectful, no drama. Media beat up.

So now it’s OK to go down to black Mountain Peninsula and hook up with a queen. That is NOT what the judge said last week!

It’s called courtesy. If she doesn’t want to, that’s cool – she’s the PM, she didn’t have to invite the Queen out here. Waiting until the Mad Monk is PM would have avoided the issue.

And of course, it does raise the question of whether dear little Julia knows how to curtsy – or say please, or thank you for that matter.

You realise the Queen spent part of WWII elbow deep in grease servicing engines in the Army motor pool don’t you… this whole pomp and circumstance, Disneyesque Prince and princesses crap is all just branding and she knows it.

She knows it because for years, Cherie Blair refused to curtsey, and the Queen reportedly took it with amusement, not insult.

She knows the pomp is more a measure of brand recognition than genuine belief, much less practical need.

The funny thing about Monarchists is they claim such die hard devotion to an institution they seem to know nothing about. They clutch a warped image of it, and often several pieces of china with their favourite royals but have no sense of it in reality. Hell, the Kate and William rhetoric spouted by monarchists was finger down the throat stuff.

I thought she was actually out here for CHOGM in Perth, not because the PM invited her here for a holiday. I don’t think it was an elaborate plan by the PM to invite her out here so she could insult her by not curtseying, as you are saying…?
