Do the developers of this “farm” pay a deposit/bond for restoration of the land they are occupying?
What happens when the farm ceases to operate for whatever reason and the solar panels and infrastructure have to be removed and sent to landfill?
Mining companies have to pay a deposit/bond for restoration of land when extraction activities have ceased.

That’s because mining stuffs up the land and the ground water and is by nature a temporary activity. Solar panels do not cause subsidence, release of noxious gases, or diversion of groundwater and are not a temporary activity.

They only operate when the sun is shining so of course they are a “temporary activity”.
As most of the land will be denuded of natural green groundcover and there will be a phenomanal amount of water running off the non pourous solar collectors I guess there will be some drainage problems (but not as bad as nuclear of coal as some would have us believe).

Coal mining, the infrastructure to transport the coal and coal-fired power stations have such a good record in terms of environmental safety. If you don’t believe me ask the people of Morwell.

Ask the operators of Australia’s coal-fired power stations what they plan to do with the coal ash which is somewhat more radioactive than nuclear waste. Of course it will become important to decommision solar power sites in the future but it is hardly the big issue that coal or nuclear will have.

Happy to see renewables being used in the region. It’s a no-brainer to use the natural available resources like the sun which creates less pollution and damage to the environment.

Thaks. Only ever seen the edges. I didnt want to look too closely in case I caught socialism.

Don’t those things kill babies, emit toxic smoke, or catch fire, or something????

Hell it’s a lot bigger than I envisaged.
