Gorgeous Gaia is ready for a new home just like her puppies!

Meet our lovable ‘Pets of the Week’ that are looking for forever homes at the RSPCA ACT Shelter!

This week, say hello to our ‘Pets of the Week’ – Ex Super-mum Gaia and shy Mercedes.

Dog of the Week – Gaia

This week’s Dog of the Week is Ex-Super-Mum Gaia who came to our Shelter late last year as a stray who was found wandering the streets heavily pregnant. Within a few days in our care, this gorgeous girl gave birth to a beautiful litter of six healthy pups who were named by the Canberra Community in line with Gaia’s Greek-themed name. The little ones have all found their homes, and now we’re set to give Gaia the same opportunities that her babies have.

Gaia is a lover of people and would make a great couch buddy for someone who isn’t going to be away for long periods during the day. She’s started to learn tricks like sit and shake, and enjoys her daily walks and snoozing in her kennel. Gaia adores getting lots of love and attention, specialising in cuddles and belly rubs.

While Gaia was the best mum with her puppies she’s still a bit particular about meeting other dogs. So she would love to find an active home where she could be the only dog and selfishly have all the attention.

We recommend Gaia to a home with an active retiree, or a family with children aged 8 years and up. Please remember that all interactions between children and dogs/pups should be monitored.

Pulled-back Mercedes is looking for a quiet home to call her own.

Cat of the Week – Mercedes

The lovely Mercedes came to the Shelter through our Inspectorate and has needed lots of time and care to socialise with people to learn that we aren’t as scary as she once thought.

Mercedes is still quite shy, and you’ll often find her napping under the scratching post or snuggled up in her bed. We’ve discovered that the way to Mercedes’ big heart is through yummy treats and chin scratches!

Mercedes’ new family will need to be specifically chosen by our staff to ensure her match can reflect her pulled back personality and assist in the growth that she still has to complete. Mercedes lives with one of her Shelter friends and would love to be adopted with them – though this would not be a requirement.

Patience is essential, as Mercedes may need time to settle in to her new home and fully become comfortable. She ideally needs a home with adults only (no children), and someone with timid cat experience who has no high expectations for her to meet. If you’re looking for a quiet friend, come speak to our cattery team!
