Meet our lovable Pets of the Week looking for forever homes at the RSPCA ACT Shelter!

Clayton and Mia are this week’s friendly Pets of the Week! These gorgeous animals are waiting to find their perfect match. Think that could be you? Read more about them below.

Dog of the week – Clayton

What a performer! Young Clayton loves an audience, and his crazy antics will undoubtedly be entertaining when zoomy hour kicks in! Hmmm, maybe a career in the circus …?

Full of beans and enthusiasm, Clayton would love to be part of an active family that can provide lots of exercise and mental challenges. He’s still finding his feet (sorry, paws) and will need consistent training and a set of guidelines. He responds well to positive rewards-based training. It’s been a joy to see how quickly he can learn; he really is eager to please and greet everyone with his goofy grin when out for a walk. On a recent outing, he switched on the charm and made even more friends with a few tradies he met.

He could benefit from having a companion canine to play with to help expend some of his bountiful energy. The best match would be an older female who can teach him the ways of the world and instil a few manners.

He also likes his downtime and is quite happy for some quiet alone time if he has something to occupy his inquisitive mind. He loves his toys (the squeakier the better) and these have become an integral part of his training and playtime.

Cat of the week – Mia

Tabby and white, I’m called Mia,

Pat me and I’ll find you dear.

With food and a snooze

You’ll find I will choose

To love you and keep you so near.

The name Mia is believed to stem from an ancient Egyptian word meaning ‘beloved originally’. And what a fitting name for this green-eyed beauty. She is such a sweet girl; she has melted the hearts of staff and volunteers alike.

Sadly, Mia’s original human mum passed away and with no one else that could take her in, she came to the RSPCA ACT. In middle age, she has shown her liking for human company, especially at mealtimes. But she likes long, quiet snoozes in her favourite spots. In fact, she spends quite some time scouting around, looking for that perfect (at least to her) stretch and siesta location. Once found, she will claim that place as hers!

Preferring people to other cats, she will be best suited as the only cat in the household. That way, she can get all the attention and pats she wants (and when she wants it, of course).

Visit the RSPCA at 12 Kirkpatrick St, Weston, and add a new companion to your life – you won’t regret it!
