Meet our lovable Pets of the Week looking for forever homes at the RSPCA ACT Shelter!

Marla and Kumar are this week’s friendly Pets of the Week! These gorgeous animals are waiting to find their perfect match. Think that could be you? Read more about them below.

Dog of the Week – Marla

Marla is a lovely blue girl who simply adores people! She can be a little shy at first and prefers to sit and look. But once she feels comfortable in the environment, she warms up quickly and becomes affectionate and sweet. Marla can be boisterous at times, so she would benefit from training classes with her new person. She is strong on the lead so her new owners will need to know how to keep her calm.

Marla would love a home where she can spend time on the couch with her people – preferably after a daily stroll. Marla seems to enjoy the company of other dogs, so we think she’d be suited to having a friendly male playmate. While at the shelter, Marla has shown that she can be a bit anxious so she is currently on medication which may be ongoing. We recommend Marla for a home with older teens (no young children).

Marla will make an excellent cuddle buddy and loyal companion.

Kumar

Kumar has plenty to crow about – check out that comb!

Rooster of the Week – Kumar

Kumar is one cool rooster who’s had a pretty rough start to life. He and his brother were thoughtlessly dumped on the side of the road with no one to care for them. When we rescued him, Kumar was skinny and needed plenty of time to grow and build some muscle. Some weeks have passed now and Kumar is doing brilliantly!

Eating nutritious food, as well as having plenty of space to run around and scratch in, Kumar has matured from a lanky teen to an athletic adult rooster. His comb has become a brilliant crimson red and his chest has filled out, so he’s ready to crow out to the world!

We’re quite serious about the crowing. Kumar can be loud, and true to his nature, loves to anticipate the sunrise. Please check out the local ACT regulations about keeping a rooster as they are not suited to densely populated residential areas. However, if you’re an early riser, Kumar would make an excellent companion.

Kumar is eager to prove that he’s the man to protect any flock, so it would be ideal if you already had some hens for him to hang out with. His lanky legs will need plenty of space to scratch about in the dirt and grass, and he’ll need a fox-proof coop to keep him safe at night.

He is understandably still a little wary of people, but with a bit of time, we have no doubt that this handsome young man will brighten up the life of any flock.

Visit the RSPCA at 12 Kirkpatrick St, Weston, and add a new companion to your life – you won’t regret it!
