The Greens’ Caroline Le Couteur has announced the Greens waste policy:

— Commit $2 million for a comprehensive education program, including free composting equipment for up to 21,000 households;

— Provide $2 million trash pack subsidy of up to $180 a year for concession card holders to assist with removal and recycling of garden waste;

— Provide $1.8 million for recycling bins in town centres, building on the Greens 2008 initiative for recycling across Civic;

— Commit $200,000 to YellowVan to assist the operations of the only ACT food rescue organisation;

— Fund an additional staff member at ACTSmart to boost organic waste recovery in offices and businesses;

— Fund up to 15 drop-off recycling points for batteries and compact fluorescent bulbs.

Indeed c__C – a no brainer doesn’t it? Every time you end up tossing something in the town centres or shopping centres, it seems such an avoidable waste.

Who is bringing in green bins? I want a bin like my garbage and recycling for my food and garden scraps. Because I have loads of veggie rubbish. GIVE ME A GREEN BIN AND I WILL VOTE

Weekly recycling pickups will get my vote and the cleaning of the lakes (brinabella canadates all seem to be on this though

Which 21,000 households?

In descending order of priority:

– solar panel system owners
– GreenChoice subscribers
– bike riders
– Mac owners
– those lovely homeless kids in Chisholm

They missed hard rubbish pick up again.

not true mr jim, if you read the initiative document again you will see that the ACT Greens support the continuation of a Bulky Goods collection service. Nothing is wasted on them it seems.
