Rural crazies to hold Canberra to ransom?

Queensland Country Life has the alarming news that hayseeds are on their way to ruin our lives until their demands are met and that horrid woman is removed as Prime Minister:

Mrs Ranacher, whose campaign against the ban has involved metropolitan media outlets across the country, appeared on the Channel Nine current affairs program, 60 minutes on Sunday. She backed plans by the convoy organisers to stage a sit-in in Canberra and to hold the city in gridlock until the Government, its supporters or the Governor-General agree to a new election.

“That’s the best thing you could do,” she said. “It is what Ghandi did and it worked for him. Be passive. Be immovable.” She said the protestors should plan to stay in Canberra for weeks.

Apparently they plan to emulate their cattle:

“We have Brahman cattle and I get that from them,” she said. “When there is something they don’t like, they sulk. They sit there and you cannot move them. We need to be the same.”

I wonder how long after hitting submit it took to for him to go “Oh S&^T!!!”

About 4 milliseconds.

A 360 would see them heading into town again…………..

I think it’s time we addressed the shocking state of the education system. Obviously not everyone comes out of it moving forward.

Lol! No wonder there’s so many prangs at roundabouts in the ACT!

On the subject of who should be running the country, clearly neither of the major parties are competent.
Just look at the waste. $440 million to work out how many people live in this country/ You’ve gotta be kidding me.

I disagree. We had Brendan Nelson followed by Malcolm Turnbull, and they barely dented Kevin Rudd. Once Tony Abbott became Opposition Leader, he knew exactly how to rattle Rudd, who dropped to ridiculously low levels of support and he has done exactly the same thing to Julia Gillard. The ALP went from incredibly high levels of support to minority status in just one term, and while government incompetence had a lot to do with that, Abbott knew how to exploit it in a way that escaped Nelson and Turnbull.

@johnboy: My name is Julie Coker-Godson and I will be one of the participant “crazies” you speak of in the forthcoming Convoy of No Confidence in the Federal Government to take place on the 22nd/23rd August next. As such, I am better placed than you are to be telling people what is taking place. Firstly, and let me make this abundantly clear, there is NO intention of a blockade. Never has been. Secondly, the Convoy is about a range of issues, including all the failed policies of this incumbent Greens/Labor Government, not just the carbon tax. The people in this Convoy come from all walks of life, farmers, cattlemen, small business, trucking businesses, et al. I am coming from the South Coast by car and will be filtering in with the Convoy at Hall. I’m glad though that you recommended people go to the justgroundsonline community link. That way, people will be able to read for themselves the preparations and intentions of the organisers of this Convoy. On this site, they will get the information “from the horses mouth” and not from excitable sensationalising commentators. Cheers, Julie C-G

Please list the failed policies?

To be fair, I thought of two and a half.
1. Malaysia
2. Banning livestock export was a knee-jerk reaction (although it was in response to a problem that was allowed to fester through a number of governments)
2.5. Pink batts – there should have been more checks on the people installing them. Nonetheless, the Labor government didn’t burn down people’s houses. They had a policy (which worked) to avoid recession by financing big-ticket infrastructure items.

Um, no. A 360 would be a complete circle, meaning they would emerge from the roundabout heading in the same direction as they went into it. 180 degrees is half a circle, which is a u-turn.

If these nutbags get their way what’s to stop other groups of nutbags bringing down the next government?

Please. A bunch of truckies blocking the streets ain’t going change the government. What they are aiming for is getting their concerns heard, in exactly the same way as any other group with a gripe. Gay marriage, live cattle exports, you name it, there are people willing to hold a protest for visibility.

Calling other people rude and foolish names, rather than addressing their concerns, is not the way to go about building a better community.

Please list the failed policies? As far as I can see Australia is running pretty well. We have 5% unemployment while the rest of the developed world sits at about 10%. We avoided a recession while the rest of the world collapsed. We are moving towards deals on healthcare and disability policy that should see real improvements in these areas. The carbon tax will actually cost us taxpayers less than the liberals’ direct action policy, which basically takes our tax money to subsidise big polluters and is condemned by pretty much every economist out there. Indeed, it is very odd to see a Liberal leader condemning a market solution to climate change while trumpeting a government directed (ie. socialist) solution. The mining tax reflects a reasonable expectation that some of the profits that major mining companies (many of which are foreign owned) should pay the Australian people a reasonable amount for the resources the Australian people own.

It is very easy to join the rabid mob who are so filled with hatred towards this government that they can’t rationally think about its policies or actions.

Or do you just think what Alan Jones tells you to?

Jeez, Alan Jones and BOLT would be contravening that anti-sedition act every day!

Howard amended the sedition laws in 2005, cheered on by the right and opposed by the left.
Would it be ironic if they were now required by the left to move on these right wingers?
Should we warn these potential seditionists?

Seditious Intention –
An intention to use force or violence to effect any of the following purposes:
(a) to bring the Sovereign into hatred or contempt;
(b) to urge disaffection against the following:
(i) the Constitution;
(ii) the Government of the Commonwealth;
(iii) either House of the Parliament;
(c) to urge another person to attempt, otherwise than by lawful means, to procure a change to any matter established by law in the Commonwealth;
(d) to promote feelings of ill-will or hostility between different groups so as to threaten the peace, order and good government of the Commonwealth.

I love the dodgy comparison with ‘Ghandi’. I think she means mean Gandhi. I can really see him getting on a convoy (perhaps driving a Mack truck?) in support of the ‘climate change is a BIG Myth’ idea. (Not.) And yes, he also had an interest in cattle, but I doubt he regarded them in the same way as this lady. Somehow I think she might eat them. Raw.

Sad to discover that this is the only story in the vast archives under the [hayseeds] tag.

That big Farmers Demo at APH many years ago, in the 80s I think (which was quite well organised) saw the local brothels doing a roaring trade. I was in a taxi when the dispatcher put the word out that the ladies in Fyshwick had requested that they stop bringing Rural Gentlemen out as they were booked solid.

I need a beer.

It wouldn’t be a very long revolution anyway, pretty much 100% of the military back the coalition. I would speculate that the AFP and State plods would be similar.

So just who’s going to ‘repel the revolutionist scum’?

Maybe all the uni students could put up a good show….oh’, and GetUp must be good for at least a Brigade of lentil throwing grenadiers and the Greens supporters, well there’s a Division of crack crackpots!

Might be a good stoush after all.

The rally is being organised by the Consumer and Tax Payer Association, I received this email earlier today:

Just a reminder that the ‘Elections NOW!’ rally will be held at the Parliament House on Tuesday 16 August 2011.
Further, as a part of ‘Convoy of No Confidence in the Federal Government’, eight road convoys will be arriving to Canberra on Monday 22 August 2011.

The rallies are organized by (CATA) Consumer and Tax Payer Association and further details can be found at http://www.nocarbontaxrally.com/Consumers_and_taxpayers_association.html

That’s got a lot more to do with people being sick of the current Government then anything Abbott’s done. Some of us would just like a party with a solid policy platform, but that seems to much to ask for from the major two.

I agree the current Govt. has done alot to screw us over, When I say Abott has removed the oposition, I refer to the fact that for some time, Polls backed up the ‘I would have Voted liberal if it weren’t for Abott’ point of view.

If we didnt have that creep running the opposition, we would have had a different result last election (then again, the same goes for the Kevin/Julia last minute spaz-flip!)

As I have said before, Election Choice: Socialist (Julia) Communist (Brown) or the bloody missing link (Abbot, the religios nut who proves evolution by not being done with it yet!)

For along time, the poll’s showed preference for the Coalition, while also showing Julia upping Tony in the preferred PM vote (Carb. Tax changed that one for now) I assume that has nothing to do with us wanting Julia to lead the coalition, more that people would prefer a coalition govt. but… um… not while he is there!

Why the bloody hell else would we have had such a period where labor was behind, while its leader in front?

Overall, I think you will find an awful lot of people want His party, But not him! (Hence the ‘removed opposition’, Imagine how the last election may have gone without that idiot leading the opposition!!)

If you an get this thing rolling, to hell with it, COUNT ME IN! (I want a OLD rifle and a funny hat!)

I am curious as to how this exactly works? Will they just all line up ’round the block, until the car at the front meets the car at the back and has nowhere to go?

Because won’t that require them to be in the drivers seat, with their seat belt on and the engine running, constantly inching forward? Fine for an hour or too as a protest, but surely that result after a day or so would be lots of rear-enders, people needing a nap or pee, etc.

And if they are not in their seats, belted, with the engine running, surely they would be booked pretty quickly and/or the car towed away….

So they want to emulate their cattle hey.

Anyone have some spare stun guns so we can engage in some humane harvesting?

It’s ironic, they’re invoking the behaviour of their cattle as something to emulate, yet they were OK with watching their cattle being torn apart alive on TV, knowing that millions of them had suffered that fate beforehand? And that more will suffer that fate if the government doesn’t act on live export?

It’ll be interesting if the hayseeds are in situ on 14 August, when the national rallies against live export are happening. there’s one planned for APH.

HA! Best line –
“When there is something they don’t like, they sulk. We need to be the same.”

If the want to emulate cattle, maybe we could emulate shipping them off to Indonesia?

If they are after support, gridlocking a town full of innocent people is not the way to go, who the hell are they angry at? We don’t deserve to cop abuse about the political decisions made in parliament, after all, the politicians are just visitors to our great city.

The reason we have such a crappy Govt comes in part (a large part) down to the incompetence of opposition.

As far as I am concerned, we had an election, we voted, we have a result, for those who voted for the opposition, and missed out, Guess what, Happens to pleanty of others!

I hate the current Govt. I hate Abott more (partially for removing the oposition from the equation) I also hated Bloody Howard, and how many years did people who did not want howard have to put up with him???

Fact is, no election will satify eveyone, and if you are in the group that missed out, WAIT YOUR DAMN TURN! I sure as hell did with howard in.

Personally, Shoot the lot and start over would be nice, But “I didn’t get what i want, so I want a do-over” is an attitude that is increasingly pissing me off.

Hopfully, the current Govt. can keep from actually destroying us just long enough to see a change in opposition, then bring on the next (Sheduled) election!
