The ACT Government wishes to advise motorists and other road users of closures on Haydon Drive in Bruce, to allow for construction of a second entrance to Radford College. The second entrance will alleviate traffic congestion during peak school drop off and pick up times.

Works will commence from Monday 10 November 2014 and are expected to be completed by 30 June 2015.

Lane closures will be in effect intermittently on Haydon Drive northbound, left lane, from Monday 17 November 2014 from 9.30 am until 4.00 pm Monday to Friday and 7.00 am until 5.00 pm Saturdays. During these times a temporary roadwork speed zone of 40 kilometres per hour will apply.

The shared use cycle and pedestrian path on the western side of Haydon Drive will be closed from Jaeger Circuit to College Street, from Monday 10 November until the completion of construction.
Motorists are urged to be patient and drive carefully.

For information regarding the construction of the entrance into the college please contact Simon Wallice, Chief Operating Officer, Radford College on 6162 6213.

For up-to-date information on road closures please call Canberra Connect on 13 22 81. For more information on road closures please visit www.tams.act.gov.au.

So has anyone investigated why so many parents are dropping their kids off at this school, rather than catching a school bus or god forbid… riding a bike?

Anyway, if Radford was to pay/chip in, why shouldn’t push bike riders also pay for those absurd bike lanes painted on roads

They do, if they pay tax.

Some pictures would be handy. The queues there in the mornings are ridiculous. I only hope the new entry includes steep rocky sections and river crossings, to put all those Audi, Mercedes and Range Rover 4WDs to use!

Is Radford paying for this? We’ve already had lane closures along Haydon Drive to accommodate drop-off zone and bus stops for this school.

Almost certainly – no.

In terms of safety and access, it would have to be one of the stupidest places to build a school anyway.

Anyway, if Radford was to pay/chip in, why shouldn’t push bike riders also pay for those absurd bike lanes painted on roads, all the residents/landowners/businesses along the route of the Gunners-Civic tram pay for all the facilitating roadworks & tram infrastructure, etc.

It’ was just yet again a dumb planning decision in the first place I’m afraid. Just like the poor access into and around Gunners itself – a failure of ACT Gov’t planning – and lack of common sense.

Is Radford paying for this? We’ve already had lane closures along Haydon Drive to accommodate drop-off zone and bus stops for this school.
