Access Canberra is warning caravan, motorhome or camper-trailer owners about the potential safety risk when operating new water heaters in suburban recreational vehicles after a fault was discovered.

Seven separate water heater models, which were manufactured between 4 April 2018 and 1 August 2019, have been affected and have potentially fatal consequences. Access Canberra spokesperson Ben Green said that Canberrans who have an affected heater should stop using it immediately.

“We advise that if you own a vehicle with an affected suburban recreational vehicle water heater that you stop using the appliance immediately,” Mr Green said. “Under certain conditions, these water heaters can generate elevated levels of carbon monoxide which may spill into the vehicle.

“If large concentrations are inhaled, this can be lethal.

“If your model is affected you must stop using the heater immediately and not use it again until it has been rectified by an authorised agent or dealership.”

Access Canberra said Canberrans can check if their hot water heater is an affected model by looking at the appliance data plates found under the front cover plate of the heater.

Affected models include SW6DEA, SW4DEA, SW4DECA, SW6PA, SW6DA, SW4DA, SW6DECA (DualFuel).

Serial numbers affected are from 181315552 to 193002648, from 183114087D to 191206073D, 8183311827, 8190201139
