Andrew Leigh is celebrating the victory of Canberra’s Sara Burke at the Australian Training Awards:

Aranda resident Sara Burke was on Friday 16 November announced as the Australian Apprentice of the Year at the 2012 Australian Training Awards.

The La Bimbi Hairdresser recently completed a Certificate III in Hairdressing through the Canberra Institute of Technology. Now fully qualified, Ms Burke mentors the salon’s Australian Apprentices.

The Australian Apprentice of the Year Award adds to her impressive resume which includes being named 2010 and 2011 Australian Hair Expo Apprentice of the Year.

Ms Burke also regularly volunteers to assist the Leukaemia Foundation and the Canberra Blind Society by donating proceeds from her work at fashion parades and runway shoots.

She spoke rather well at the awards night, so I’m sure she will make a great ambassador for apprenticeships. She had us all rolling in laughter when she said to Peter Fitzsimons, the MC, that you should never give a hairdresser a mircophone before embarking on a lengthy but humorous speech.

ACT students were well represented amongst the winners of other categories too, Vocational Student of the Year Award going to Gloria Davison and the runner up for the Trainee of the year going to Daniel Helson.

And let’s also note that other ACT residents were honoured at this event. Gloria Davison was the winner of the Vocational Student of the Year Award and Daniel Helson was the runner-up of the Australian Apprentice (Trainee) of the Year Award. Well done to all.

Good on her. Well done.

Go Sara!
You are amazing! 😀
