Sarah Blasko made a somewhat unexpected appearance to sing with Darren Hanlon at Tilley’s last night. Darren was at the end of his tour apparently and was sounding a little croaky.

It was a great show – as always with Darren. I would have liked to have heard some of his really old stuff – video store or she cuts hair, but I’m not going to complain. Manila NSW was great – I hope he enjoyed my cake 🙂

Holly Throsby was in attendance saturday as well, but couldn’t be coaxed into performing this time.

“it was just standing room only by the time I got around to buying some, so I decided against seeing him”

Come on Meco, nothing wrong with standing up for a couple of hours.

I missed out on tickets this time unfortunately – it was just standing room only by the time I got around to buying some, so I decided against seeing him.

Last time though, Holly Throsby came along and sang with him for one or two songs – is accompaniment by an attractive, popular young female singer a recurring feature of his act?

I saw Darren play at the Powerhouse In Brisbane a fortnight ago and again on the weekend. Both shows were fantastic, although for general atmosphere, the Brisbane show did prevail. It was a free concert to mark the beginning of the Winter Concert Series and there was a large, quite eclectic mix of folk there.

I think the support was Lucy Leymen — Darren said she doesn’t have any releases out yet, although she is a published novelist?

It was the fifth time I’ve seen Darren, and despite the fact it was the last night of his current tour, and him battling a sore throat, it was a fantastic show.

Think my favourite was the loungy performance of Manila, NSW.

Oops! Sorry the meat was supposed to be some pics I took.

It was a fabulous night ntp :P, despite being colder than a witch’s teat in the line at Tilley’s. Half the fun of Darren concerts are his casual chats with the audience. His observations regarding the politeness of Fyshwick revheads were pretty funny. The supporting act was quite cool as well (but songs with some dark themes in compared to Darren) but I didn’t catch her name. Anyone?

It was pretty awesome. He’s got a very good stage presence, lots of interaction with the audience, and really down to earth attitude.

Sarah’s duet was a great bonus too. he was starting to lose his voice, so it was nice he had some help too. Made you sorry to request an encore!

Also a good crowd of people there to see him. Cheers to the providers of free pizza in the queue outside before the gig!! kept us warm.

Nice to know Dobaman but come-on! give us some details! What was the gig like and “good” doesn’t cut it >(

Anyone else care to shed some light on the gig?
