Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does. ~ William James
My son Adam and I have entered a cancer council approved car rally to raise funds for cancer research.

The car rally will cover over 3700 kms over 7 days travelling from Adelaide to Fremantle via Ulura.

What makes this car rally unique is that the car must cost less than $1000 and will be travelling across suspension punishing outback roads in central Australia.

Just completing the journey will be a major achievement for both the car and the drivers.

The car rally will take place on the 4th May 2013 through to the 10thMay 2013.

The car rally is called the S***box Rally due to the fact that the cars cost less than $1000!

Our team goal was to raise $10,000 but we have managed to raise $12,000, thanks to our sponsors Atlas Windows and Gracious Living Constructions and all the people that came to our tennis events and donated their time and money.

Our good friend Rod lost his battle with cancer last October. Initially Rod and I were going to do the Rally together, but when he was admitted into hospital in Feb 2012 , we knew he was too sick to do the 2013 Cancer Car Rally, but that didn’t stop us talking about it.

Rod was bed ridden for the next 9 months until he finally succumbed to cancer and passed away.

We spent many evenings in his hospital room pretending he would able to do the rally, it allowed him to escape from the hospital room and gave us something positive and wonderful to talk about.

Our team is doing the S***BOX rally in honor of Rod Hewitt Cook and all he stood for, integrity, animal lover, pilot, husband, father, grandfather, good friend, computer nerd, engineer and the list goes on.

The S***box rally gives us the chance to do something to help find cures for cancer by raising funds for cancer research. Cancer has a way of making you feel helpless, so this is one way we can help fight the big “C” by raising funds for cancer research.

Something a little Different – our car is a TENNIS CAR! Check out the video to see how it was transformed into the tennis car:

Make a donation (www.everydayhero.com.au/kiss_myace) and get a tennis ball placed on the car with some personalized text! These Tennis balls and the associated text gave the car character and connected all my donators to the team! The more tennis balls the better the car looked.
Looking to get donations if I can before I leave on the epic journey.
Details about the rally can be found here www.shitboxrally.com.au and our team is “Kiss My Ace”, our motto is “Give Cancer a serve” and we like to think we can make a difference.

Congrats on the drive guys. Although this finished a while back now, it still sticks in my mind when I think about acts of kindness. I would love to write about your experience for my website. More people need to hear stories like yours to encourage a healthier community. See you on the tennis court this summer.

Sorry to hear about your mate Rod. You have a worthy cause but how do you get home if you break down?
Sometimes I think that if the effort put into making bling iPhone covers was put into curing cancer, then it would be cured inside a week.
I will check out the webside with a view to donating.
