Schnauzer Clipping in Kambah*

Morning Everyone,

After a sub-prime experience with the dog groomers down at Hume, we’ve been looking for a new place to get our Schnauzer shorn. A couple of different people we met at dog parks have told us about a woman in Kambah that specialises in Schnauzer cuts, but I haven’t managed to track down any other details, like a name or some contact details. Does anyone know of this ‘elusive’ dog groomer, or am I just the latest victim of the urban myth dog owners whisper to each other, huddled around take away coffees at dog parks on winter afternoons.

*Sounds like a good title for a Police Wrap

The groomer in Kambah made a mess of my dog. Rather than grooming him as I asked, she gave him a number 1 all over – he looked like a rat. When I pointed out that I’d specifically asked her not to trim his tail or ears, she told me it was my fault for not having him groomed more often. The irony is it takes at least 7 weeks to get in to see her… and now she only does little dogs which means I have to go somewhere else for the German Shepherd. I guess she has enough work to do as she pleases, including defying and patronising clients.

Same thing happened with my bubbas – have been going there for years and years and still have to say every time not to cut their tails or ears – go to pick them up and lo and behold, their tails and ears are cut. For the cost, it would be nice to have your dog looking how you like it.

I think it goes without saying (but I’ll say it anyway) when someone pays good money for their dog to be groomed, the dog should come back looking like there was some skill involved.

I thought about Kylie on the weekend as I trimmed my pooch myself. He looks adorable (and how he should) with mane and tail intact and that’s $70 of my hard earned cash that I don’t have to give that rude woman. Feels good to have the last laugh.

Steer clear of Animal Attraction at the Macquarie shops, they did a terrible job on our dog (completely shaved her when we asked for a trim) and were incredibly rude to boot!

I have had good experiences with the Ausie Pooch Mobile people but they are a franchise so depending on where you live you might get a different groomer? The guy who came to our place (in Macquarie) did a great job and was very friendly – but I agree with a lot of the comments above, if all you want is a trim (not a wash, nails clipped etc) then it would probably be worth investing in a good pair of clippers.

Not really sure what that rant was about, but just wanted to say (as with most above) I never had any issues with her, and was always happy with the service and job done.

Schnauzer clipping – sounds like a euphemism to me.

Just don’t ride a bicycle for a couple of days.

I highly recommend Kylie at Shampooch (19 Mannheim Street, 6231 7416). Hard to get in initially but worth the wait then it’s easy because you book in advance.

Hi there, I had until recently taken our boy to Capital Grooming in Chifley and LOVED them… until the last groom there. I just wasn’t happy with the final outcome and when I arrived, they hadn’t quite finished which suggests they then rushed the job. Our boy came home with what can only be described as a shaving rash which I know can happen but never had before. When I called to complain, I discovered that Lisa – the fantastic owner – had sold the business. Not sure if that explains the difference in the service but seems like a big coincidence otherwise. So at the moment, we’re desperately trying to find someone else who takes good care of our boy, just like Lisa used to at Capital.

I took my boy as a pup to Lisa for his first groom and had been going there ever since (3yrs) but I have also found that since Lisa has left that they just don’t seem up to scratch? My little fellow used to walk in happily to see Lisa & I definitely felt it was worth the long waiting period and $80 a pop. However, the last time I took him there I had to take him back for a “touch up” (which was bad enough) & he didn’t want to walk through the door… OK, I’ll admit my dog makes up for his small size by being a big sook but does anyone know where Lisa has gone or of a dog groomer who 100% puts the dogs first and spoils them rotten? Please let me know if you’ve found a “Lisa replacement”? Although I dont think she is possible to replace… All the best in your future endeavours Lisa, The Dogs of Canberra will miss you…

Hi there…first of all: Compliments on your choice of pooch !. Secondly, I would recommend that you bite the bullet, go out and purchase a good pair of Wahl 2 speed clippers (about $300), search ‘schnauzer clipping’ on youtube (there’s a couple of good videos) and give it a go yourself….its not that hard and you will end up saving heaps. My dogs get heaps of compliments on their cuts and I am always happy to tell people that I did it myself !

Goos luck !

Kylie from Shampooch (Mannheim St, Kambah) grooms our dog and does a good job every time. Would definitely recommend. We also used to take our dog to Capital Grooming but left mainly because it was getting too expensive.

The woman in Kambah is Nicky, it’s called doggy day spa, phone numbers 62317421 or 0417202907, I’m happy with the dog grooming and clipping she has done on my poodle.

Isabell’s Grooming in Colbee Court in Phillip. She did a fantastic job grooming our dog and he now smells incredible! We will definitely be going there again.

why don’t you spend $80 on clippers and practice doing it yourself? Long time it’ll be much cheaper. Anyway, even if it looks like a botch job, the only difference between a bad haircut and a good one is about 2 weeks. lol

Not sure if they specialise in Schnauzers, but you might be after Shampooch: http://www.yellowpages.com.au/act/kambah/shampooch-11860034-listing.html

The one in Chifley is OK but hideously expensive. There is a great lady in Gilmore who runs a cattery and grooming business for small dogs from her home – Cozy Cats Cattery. I use Aussie Pooch Mobile for my border collie and the guy is absolutely fantastic.

Hi there!
I recently took my pooch to Capital Grooming in Chifley and was most pleased with the job they did and the general atmosphere – and I know they do a lot of ‘to breed’ dos! I also liked them because I could drop him off at 8am and pick him up after work at 6pm, which I found super helpful!

Worth a go, says I 🙂
