Scotty and Nige Hangover Party

Was anyone else disgusted about 104.7’s decision to hold a competition for people to attend a hangover party?

It is absolutely disgraceful that a local radio station promotes an event, obviously aimed at the young people of Canberra, encouraging them to go out and party with D-grade celebrities in order to have a next-day ‘hangover party.’

As a young person in Canberra, I found this extremely careless and fail to see the logic behind this competition. 104.7 PR needs revisiting. This is a PR disaster – encouraging young people to drink to the point of ‘achieving’ a hangover when binge drinking and alcohol fueled violence is already enough of an issue.

ABC NEWSRADIO ROCKS!

Glen Bartholomew and Marius Benson tear it up old skool.

+1, it was a different story when the commercials actually played music (not just banter) and 666 had competent presenters (not that embarrassment Ross Solly). Except for AM, if I want to be informed, it’s Newsradio. If I want music, iPhone to the rescue.

Assuming that this is not a gee-up….thank you thank you thank you!! I thought I may have been the only news radio listener in Canberra.

For the latest news and some of the best political interviews and commentary in the country check out Glen and Marius every morning, along with their regular guest commentators from major papers and websites. Classic stuff.

Ah ha I knew it JB! You are Scotty aren’t you? Adult juvenile radio presenter by day and ultra intellectual Riot founder by night who only posts in profound minimalisms that really make you think.

On second thought your avatar photo looks nothing like Scotty??

Well I’m sure both Scotty and Nige are probably decent people in real life, I know that their only doing their job and the personalities that they project are probably scripted by someone else anyways. Any friend of yours is a friend of mine JB. Apologise for jumping on the knock S&N bandwagan.

Sounds like someone needs to get their panties out of a knot and unwedged from their butt crack and find something worthwhile to worry about rather than a radio competition.

I don’t listen to breakfast radio – by the time the valves in my wireless warm up, it’s nearly lunchtime.

I’m so appalled by this blatant, disgusting and disgraceful display of wowserism that I’m going to drink another 6 ciders and get pissed before I go to bed tonight.

Cheers!

Young and Vocal – did the soap box need an airing. Firstly, the promotion was aimed at a Movie bearing the name The Hangover II. Secondly, and in support of a few other posters, can you or anyone else not make the distinction between the name of a promotion and the consumption of alcohol as a self choice mechanism. The pretext you posted on that it was a promotion to get drunk and turn up to a movie is baseless and quite frankly naive. People are freeto make their own choices and thusly need to stop blaming media outlets for their own personal behaviour choices.

Harden up, make choices and live with them, don’t look for scapegoatsor others to blame. It is so typical of the culture at moment to look for someone else to blame instead of puttingyour hand up and saying yep, i did it and its down to me.

Firstly, yes, I can make the distinction between the name of a promotion and the consumption of alcohol as a self choice mechanism. I am a young person and I do make the conscious choice to drink responsibly. Don’t be naive and think that every young person in Canberra cannot make this choice!

Secondly, what I am raising here is that it is irresponsible of a radio station, aimed at the younger demographic of the capital, to promote an event which involves alcohol. This is a huge difference between this event and an event, like a function, presentation, launch, where a bar is available. The Hangover party, regardless of it’s ‘smart’ link to a film, was anchored solely on a party and suffering a hangover in company – clearly promoting excessive drinking. You may not see it like this, but I tell you that other young people (and those younger than myself) will!

Drinking responsibly does remain the responsibility of the individual. However, we also see in alcohol adverts that it is encouraged people drink responsibly and in moderation – something obviously lacking from this event.

I think I need a drink

OP what are you doing listening to 104.7? The subject is not even worth discussing because it is drivel from the Scotty and Nige radio show. If anyone knows Scotty and Nige and sees them in the street – please physically assualt them with extreme prejudice.

Don’t worry – wasn’t listening by choice!

You listen to commercial radio – what do you expect?

If it’s any consolation I was at the event and it was woeful at best.

Worst excuse for a ‘hangover party’ ever. We walked in the door and were given two (2) drink vouchers (tap beer, house wine or champagne) and some finger food.

We were given the chance to win more vouchers but didn’t bother.

It wasn’t the drink-a-thon that was promoted and certainly didn’t justify spending two hours in Mooseheads.

So let me get this straight, you’re upset because you were given two free drinks and some food, and a chance to win some more?

I’ll just add breakfast radio to my list of topics which generate unwarranted levels of passion.

I’ve always found scotty to be a pretty excellent bloke in person

oh and I forgot to metion, the movie on the saturday morning was cancelled so we were given a few free passes to the theatre in Tuggeranong. FAIL

This kind of fake bad boy action is just what you’d expect from these tools. They would never actually do anything out of the box like just randomly announce “Let’s all go to that full moon party on in the bush tomorrow night” but give them a money making event to promote and they know exactly what to do.

I went and saw it today and it is hilarious… even without a hangover!

creative_canberran1:18 pm 02 Jun 11

Look it’s old chicken and egg question, which comes first, the promotion of drunkenness or people wanting to get drunk. Its a lazy effort by the station but that’s commercial radio for you, give the people what they want. If the OP wants to blame someone, blame the people who can’t have fun anymore without getting excessively drunk! Some evil radio station isn’t forcing them to drink. It’s called self responsibility and personal choice.

I refuse to comment until our arbiter of radio station quality, Mr Moulis, advises us of the correct opinion to have on this issue.

DrKennethNoisewater1:12 pm 02 Jun 11

I am reasonably confident we won’t be seeing these two host an exercise party anytime soon.

I heard an ad on the same radio station for the folk festival. Everyone knows what a problem drugs and hippies are, yet here is the radio station openly encouraging people to go to an environment where people might smoke weed and subsequently enjoy themselves! I am disgusted and appalled!

Seriously – this has got to be the young libs or a troll. Maybe both…

Yes, but it wasn’t exactly a requirement to have a hangover. They just know that clearly some people are going to be hungover.

That part is moot anyway, as the movie showing the next day was cancelled and they were given free movie tickets instead.

“If you bothered to listen to the promotion and understand it, you would know that they weren’t promoting people to go out and get hammered. They encouraged them to go and have “a few drinks”. Nothing mentioned about the necessity to have a hangover the following morning.”

Actually one of the tag lines of the competition was watch the hangover with a hangover.

You can do better than this, surely.

Apparently not.

Wow another think of the children post. The internet is making me discover more and more that people are a) mostly stupid b) completely and utterly banal c) easily outraged.

What will they think of next, a come down party? a chill out zone? a music festival? high tea at the Hyatt (which btw is excellent)?

Calamity and Mr Magoo are dismissed from a) b) & c) above

What more do you expect from these guys …they slide further and further away from the glory days when Marty and Erica would actually entertain and make a difference, Martys Crazy calls were a highlight. Its starts at the top.

This is ridiculous. Just an excuse to have a moan about something.
You can do better than this, surely.

I still can’t get over how many people listen to that tripe.

our-interface9:49 am 02 Jun 11

I think you’ve overreacting just a little OP.

lol, back in my day I didn’t need a radio station to promote it. I could get smashed any night of the week without social media checking up on me or telling others of my exploits.
From The Canberra Workers Club, Jolly Jugs, The Bin and Mooseheads when it had live music in the early 90s (and the see through dance floor) Good Times, and the 3 day hangovers ….. wow they toughened me up.

People like the OP are why we are turning into a nanny state. No one forced you to go or to drink, stop being a sook.

That’s Scotty and Nige for you. Beer o’clock, early happy hours.. They’ve been doing this sorta crap for as long as they’ve been on the air.

They’re just the worst radio jocks ever. Nige makes some poor joke about being wasted. Scotty bursts out laughing at Nige. Nige beats already bad joke to death for the next 5 minutes. repeat. till 9am.

They’re the reason why I switched to triple J. and I always hated triple J. (like it now)

D grade celebrities at a local radio station? Yes I was disgusted..

If you bothered to listen to the promotion and understand it, you would know that they weren’t promoting people to go out and get hammered. They encouraged them to go and have “a few drinks”. Nothing mentioned about the necessity to have a hangover the following morning.

Sure, people probably did get hammered, but that was their choice. Scotty and Nige weren’t there forcing drinks down their throats. The entire time the choice was with the people doing the drinking.

I think you need to actually make sure you have a sound understanding of the competition before you create a post like this.

Are you sure you are a “young person”?
