Screws in tyres in Canberra?

Has anyone else had someone putting screws in their tyres?

I have had on 3 seperate occasions now found the same type of screw in the same tyre.

It has been the same tyre each time and on the outer top edge of the tyre so I think someone must be doing it.

As others have said, odds are you’re driving over them. I’d be searching the garage and garden for screws, perhaps someone has dropped a box by mistake.

If you think someone is doing it to you, start doing a pre-inspection of each tyre every-time you start and stop the car – It takes 30 seconds.

seriously I think you ran over it .. why would anyone carry a drill or a screwdriver about to put it in your tyre sounds silly . If someone wanted to mess with you wouldnt they slash your tyres or let them down?

On one hand, slashing the tire (the sidewall) is worse because the tire can’t be fixed, whereas a screw through the face of the tire can be plugged relatively inexpensively.

On the other hand, if you slash someone’s tires, or let them down, chances are they’ll notice before they set off and, while inconvenient, is much less inconvenient than having an unexpected tire failure while driving and having to change it at the side of the road. You could call a cab or catch a bus or get a lift with a family member or housemate, or whatever.

Of course, the unexpected tire blowout scenario (esp. where front tires and/or high speed are concerned) is far more dangerous and therefore malicious.

In fact, not many people do park their cars on streets in Canberra yet most streets it is permitted.

Yet oddly, everyone parks on the nature strip, which isn’t permitted.

I recently had 2 tyres replaced because they had screws in them (two front tyres). I never even noticed… so maybe the service guys are screwing with me?

I recall a while ago (and it might be on post here) that someone in Narrabundah was going around and putting screws in cars that park on the street. For whatever reason the nutter thought parking on the street was a bad thing?! In fact, not many people do park their cars on streets in Canberra yet most streets it is permitted.

So how long have you been a screwdriver?

If there are neferious elements at play regards this situation, it is an old and cunning trick.

Have you pissed anyone off lately?

I suggest checking your tyres everytime before you set off. I would advocate the use of nails myself, but it is easy for a villan to rest the offending object against your tyre (front and back of said tyre) and as you drive off the object penetrates your tyre and you develop a slow leak that you notice long after the actual villinous act. Very easy to do actually.

Noticed anyone spill their coins and stoop to put them up, or do up their shoelaces around your car recently?

You aren’t accidentally leaving in the screw and forgetting about it are you?

He he.

Do you know the force/weight it take to puncture a tyre? Either superman/the hulk has it in for you OR much more likely you drive over the same spot everyday where a tradie ute spilt some screws onto the road.

Do you know how easy it is to drive in a screw with a cordless drill?

Doesn’t take much to screw a screw into a tyre though.
