Hi everyone,

The second meeting to organise a youth contingent for the Walk Against Warming is at 6pm on Tuesday, October 9, at the Conservation Council (3 Childers St, Acton).

We’ll be discussing what speakers and what events will happen on the day itself, so if you’re interested in getting involved in the campaign to stop climate change come along.

See you there!

17 people might show up.

Gold.

how is ‘walking’ making the world a better place ?

unless you have control over the sun you cant stop global warming or cooling.

I disagree, Maelinar. A dumbass would be a person who WATCHES Sunrise.

I think you are missing a huge point tt.

Most people would be watching these programs, regardless of if it was something informational or yet more reruns of Happy Days.

Therefore the carbon cost is neutral.

Dumbass.

Has anyone checked the carbon footprint of mass protest?

How much carbon was produced to run and watch live earth? What was the environmental damage of cinema’s running an undeniable truth, how much carbon was created through the 2000 presidential campaign as airforce 2 ploughed its way around the states with essentially one passenger? I saw the sunrise program during their cool the earth campaign try and say thay were “carbon neutral” However, their estimation of their carbon footprint did not include the electricity required to consume their product(ie turning on millions of TV sets around the country).

People have not focused on what the actual implications of climate change is and what we will need to stop doing to stop greenhouse gases being emitted. At the moment it is sexy, but when the cost start mounting and the non-effective feel goods are done (with no tangible impact on warming) just wait for the blow back!

Technology is our only solution, because people WILL not pay the cost or do without things that they want – fool paradise if anyone thinks that sustainable change in behaviour is happening

Party like its 2099.

Denialists.

Burn the blasphemers!!

“…try to make the world a better place..”

It would be a better place if smug hippies could start and end the walk under water

Socialistica,

I’m sure your 5 confirmed guests will have a nice stroll. As for your 36 people who have confirmed they will not attend, I’m sure they have better things to do than waste their time on some political fad issue.

I bet you smell your own farts

Wow! Interesting responses. Thanks for the support Pierce, I know there’s still a lot of people who would rather post bitter comments than try to make the world a better place. I guess that’s one of the reasons for this protests – to mobilise public sentiment for real action in reducing carbon emissions, and to show just how marginalised these global warming denialists are.

Aren’t you concerned that this walk will produce a cloud of smug?

green_frogs_go_pop11:25 am 08 Oct 07

it must be some hell of an event when it has its own page thing on facebook..

Snahons_scv6_berlina11:06 am 08 Oct 07

So will those youths use “green” energy to recharge their ipods they use whilst walking ?

barking toad10:10 am 08 Oct 07

So you go for a walk

To protest against warming

hahahahahahahaha

I wish I had four arms so I could give this four thumbs down

that should be “will always be” – looking forward to that edit comments option guys 🙂

Don’t worry about the local ranting right socialistica, there will always been a nasty, noisy and increasingly out-of-touch minority who like to pour scorn on those who want to make the world a better place. Good on you.

(They also seem highly prone to straw man arguments)

I’m sure everyone in attendance will be required to plant a tree on entry.

Walk all you want, kiddies. Your religous ritual will have no impact at all.

I trust you lot will not drive your cars to your meeting place, or have your parents drive you etc etc.

Otherwise, you’ll find the word ‘hypocrite’ under ‘H’ in any dictionary, as usual.
