The Chief Police Officer has just tweeted thusly:

2nd suspect in Braddon murder arrested in Queanbeyan – 20 yr man pulled knife after police spotted him on street but eventually surrendered.

UPDATE: This statement from ACT Policing:

A second man has been arrested in relation to the murder and aggravated robbery of a 27-year-old man in Braddon on Thursday (August 4).

ACT Policing members located the 20-year-old Turner man walking along Stornaway Road, Queanbeyan around 11:30am today (Monday, 8 August). At the time he was in company with a 17-year-old female.

Police approached the man, who then drew a knife and brandished it towards officers. A negotiation ensued, resulting in the man surrendering to police.

The man has been taken into custody and will face the Queanbeyan Court later today where ACT Policing will seek extradition.

You need to update your knowledge of Australian law. It is innocent until proven guilty, except on RiotAct where the Laura Norder mob are free to advocate lynching anyone suspected of committing a crime – they, of course, fail to see the contradiction in this.

It takes someone particularly devious to make up stuff like this.

Not guilty Your Honour. This Asian bloke dived at me out of nowhere and head-butted my bat while I was swinging it around.

If I hear anything else, especially anything about the suspects personal life, I will seriously spit the dummy…

For a moment there I thought that was an open invitation…

I hope one day you have the opportunity to look face to face at Mr and Mrs Zhao and say “not guilty”.

Adult crime deserves adult time.

Why do scum always have such f***ed up names?

30 years ago in the town I lived in, two people killed another lad they had met. One of the killers was 16 1/2, the other 19 years old. The whole town knew which one was the absolute headcase – the “minor”. He got 18 months in a “Quamby” prison, let out and to this day, I don’t know whether he reformed or not. Nevertheless, his life after relaese was his to play with. The other lad got nearly 20 years. He’s out now. I beleive it was either the only crime he had committed or the last one he committed. I’m not condoning the 2nd lads actions, but the concept that a minor does not have the adult intellect therefore is tried in a childrens court is bulls***.

Drawing a knife on police is pretty much an admission of guilt, The only problem is working out what he’s admitting to.

The low life forms may end up doing porridge… paid for by the rest of us taxpayers…. do we really believe they will be rehabilitated into civic-minded individuals after time at Her Majesty’s pleasure?

LOL at you both. Good job police. I’m surprised it was ACT Police… Where is AFP?

Um, why would the AFP have anything to do with this? Policing the ACT is done by ACT Policing (strange, I know). Whereas the AFP deals with National crimes and incidents.

The only strange thing is you making this comment… and getting it wrong.

ACT Policing refers to a business unit of the AFP. Police officers in the ACT are AFP. Simple.

All officers assigned to the ACT are under contract to the ACT Government but remain Commonwealth Officers sworn to the AFP and wearing AFP uniform.
When assaulted, the offence is “assault of a Commonwealth official”.
The Chief Police Officer is an assistant commissioner within the AFP.

The ACT has not had a distinct police force since 1979.

Assaulting a commonwealth official led to the creation of the AFP. Billy Hughes was pelted with rotten egg’s at a QLD conscription rally in 1917. The QLD state policeman refused to take any action against the egg throwers. Along the lines of ” I don’t have to do what you tell me”. Thus the AFP was born to enforce commonwealth laws and put an end to the rotten food throwers.

Makes you long for the bye gone day when slinging political shit was an over arm action.

I’m surprised at how relieved I feel that these two druggie psychopaths have been found and are behind bars – living not very far from where the poor man was murdered has felt pretty uncomfortable.

The ACT Government has to do more to clean up the Northbourne flats. Let me tell you, I don’t walk anywhere around here after 10pm. If the Govt truly wants to achieve their aim, they have to put a helluva lot more elbow grease into making this an area where people can feel safe.

Couldn’t agree more. Here’s to hoping that ACT Housing and Police start to do something about this.

The ACT Government has to do more to clean up the Northbourne flats. One the one hand, they are bending over backwards (and forwards) for developers to build thousands of postage stamp size apartments around here, with the objective of ‘sustainable’ housing – which is overwhelmingly reliant on people walking into the city. Let me tell you, I don’t walk anywhere around here after 10pm. If the Govt truly wants to achieve their aim, they have to put a helluva lot more elbow grease into making this an area where people can feel safe.

Condolences to the family of the murdered man – what a sad waste.

You know I always imagined arrests in the streets of Queanbeyan going a little like this

Jesus, relax, we aren’t a jury. A trial will still be taking place. And yes, assumptions will be made because with such limited information that’s all the general public has to work on.

If he pulls a knife on a cop he’s a dickhead anyway, so i’ll consider my private trial complete.

1.Brandished and ensued.
They could just disarm me with their words.

2.I much prefer the Victorian Police version of negotiation
Suspect Draws knife
BANG!
Saves the cost of a trial.
+1

3. …and the no doubt classy female companion he was with.
I bet her first name is Skye.

All things await the trial.

Should have dealt out some 9mm justice on the spot.

Because most innocent people have machetes and baseball bats in their homes and walk around with knives.

… and considering the Police knew he/they stole exactly $21 and a phone means they probably had a confession (or the theft proceedings), from the first guy. How else would they know that? Getting that is pretty good proof of some sort of guilt (along with the weapons!).
And if they got a confession from the first guy they probably also got the name/location etc of the second dude with it?
Lets face it, these weren’t criminal masterminds who pulled off a well-planned robbery. How wacked out and out-of-touch would you have to be to still have the (suspected) weapons still in your house? Or not be on the run in another State (not Qbn!) if you knew your accomplice was knicked?

What? He brought a knife to a gunfight??

If I was the Officer the negotiation would go like this:

Tossbag – ‘I’ll stab you,pig. don’t come near me’
Police Officer – ‘You have a knife, I have a gun’
TB – ‘I’ll stab you, maaaannnn *apply crackhead drawl here*’
PO – ‘I’ll repeat it for you, I have a gun’
TB – ‘Yeah….well whatchagonnadopig…huh’
PO – “Uummm let me think…shoot you in the chest’
TB – ‘Ohh, I give up maaannnn *again with the crackhead drawl*’

Hm i think it is about time that area of town received a much needed clean up

Shame that they didn’t use the knife as an excuse to put two in his chest and one in his head, and the no doubt classy female companion he was with. Good thing about these no-brain braggart lowlifes, their lack of intelligence usually leads to a swift arrest.

HAHAHA Thanks for the giggle 😛

Sounds like a good effort in bringing a dangerous dickhead without anyone else gettihng hurt. Good on ’em.

Condolences to the family of Liang Zhao for losing a loved one to such low life garbage.

Congratulations to ACT police for solving this so quickly.

Whether the ACT judiciary system will squash these two bottom feeding lifeforms is a different story….

See, he’s not as stupid as one would think. A positive Einstein amongst his peers, most of whom would be looking like colanders following that situation.

You’ve gotta love the things police do with the English language…
Great work.

Once again, who cares about the wording. More like: another great bit of real Police work getting this loser off the streets (literally). This one can be tried as an adult.

The guy obviously has no remorse or concerns about the murder – instead of hiding out somewhere, he’s still wandering around in broad daylight, and then whips out a knife when confronted?! Amazing….

Pulling a knife on the police?

Speaks volumes to the intellect of the induhvidual involved.

Great work.

Presumably ACT Policing members are also sworn as “Special Constables” for surrounding NSW – Just as NSW Police based in Queanbeyan are sworn as “Special Constables” here. That means they can exercise police powers in the other jurisdiction, but any offender is still subject to that jurisdiction’s court system.

This arrangement for ACT Police to be able to arrest a suspect interstate (Queanbeyan only, I presume), but not take them back into the ACT sounds strange to me. Is anyone able to enlighten me?

I hope this piece of scum is duly tried and jailed for a long time too.
