Secretive development of parks

The recent hoo-ha over the development of the park outside dickson pool has brought up a good question. How to inform locals about development of their green spaces?

Residential developments are flagged with the little yellow sign outside the house. Neighbours will see it and have a look.

But to flag a green-space development with a tiny yellow sign seems a bit cheeky. Who can read that as they drive past? The development sign for the Dickson park to become a carpark was put up in the depths of winter too. Was this calculated so that almost no one would be walking past to notice it? Or just clueless?

How should the govt tell people that they are planning to turn a park or green space into a building or carpark?

More on the Dickson carpark development notice:

Haha that’s funny! You think the ACT Government actually pays attention to these “consultations”. They’re consultation in name only.

Just look at how many submissions were received for “DV309” (http://www.actpla.act.gov.au/tools_resources/legislation_plans_registers/plans/territory_plan/draft_variations_to_the_territory_plan), where they plan to turn green space into a new bus depot. 46 submissions against it, and they’re still going ahead.
